Course Change Announced for Ironman 70.3 Racine Triathlon

Construction along Interstate 94 has required a change to the Ironman 70.3 Racine Triathlon bicycling course. This year's event is set for Sunday, July 21.

The 56-mile bicycling leg runs from North Beach through parts of Racine, Caledonia, Raymond, Yorkville and Mount Pleasant. Instead of being routed along the I-94 West Frontage Road, this year's cycling course will include a section of 51st Street in the Towns of Raymond and Yorkville between Three Mile Road and 50th Road. In Yorkville, the revised course follows 50th Road between 51st Street and I-94. In the Village of Mount Pleasant, the course change involves a section of Kraut Road between the I-94 East Frontage Road and Highway V.

Traffic will be affected along the cycling course in both directions from about 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Area police and sheriff's deputies will be stationed at key intersections along the route. Traffic will be allowed through intersections at officer discretion.

The Ironman 70.3 Racine Triathlon will bring about 2,200 triathletes from around the world to compete in swimming, bicycling and running. Racine's North Beach will again serve as the transition point among the activities.

The other portions of the triathlon will be unchanged from last year. The swim course will follow the North Beach lakeshore from north to south. The triathlon's running course will extend from North Beach, through the Racine Zoo and along the lakeshore to Shoop Park near the Wind Point Lighthouse. Traffic will be affected in both directions from 7 a.m. until about 5 p.m. on parts of Michigan Boulevard, Lakecrest Avenue, North Main Street, 3 Mile Road and Lighthouse Drive.
