Racine Delivers Great Taste, Great Shows and Great Music

Let’s send the summer of 2013 out with a bang! You can taste of the area’s best food at Taste of Racine, catch some live music and see water-skiing artistry – all in Racine County this Labor Day Weekend. Here are Real Racine’s tips.

 

Great taste, great cause. Taste of Racine has it all! Pizzas, gyros, sandwiches, ribs, eggrolls, ice cream and much more. This annual benefit for Family Service of Racine features some of the best samples from more than a dozen area restaurants. There is also entertainment all day long, including family activities and music from King of Clubs, Group Therapy and 2 Week Notice. Taste of Racine runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Festival Park, 5 Fifth St. Admission is $3 for adults; free for kids ages 12 and younger. Rock out in Waterford.  The weekend starts Thursday evening at Waterford River Rhythms. The season finale features Kashmir, a Led Zeppelin tribute band. The free concert is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Village Hall Park, 123 N. River St. There is plenty of parking nearby. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy one last summer blast.

Water-ski finale. The Browns Lake Aquaducks cap the 2013 season with a trio of free shows at Fischer Park, Highway 11, Burlington. These water-ski shows feature jumps, stunts and dancing. The Thursday junior show starts at 5 p.m. followed by the main show at 6:30 p.m. Performances on Saturday and Sunday start with the juniors at 4:30 p.m. followed by the main show at 6 p.m. Visit www.aquaducks.org

 

Free concert Friday. The season end is here for Music on the Monument. Friday’s free concert at Monument Square in Downtown Racine features Folkswagon. The show is 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  If the weather is rainy, it will be moved inside to the Red Onion Café, 555 Main St. Special thanks to Plumb Gold Ltd. and the Downtown Racine Corp. for making Music on the Monument possible again this year.

 

Time for a climb. Wind Point Lighthouse Tour to the Top is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at 4725 Lighthouse Dr., Wind Point. The Friends of the Wind Point Lighthouse invite everyone ages 6 and older to climb to the top of the 108-foot structure for incredible views. Please, no sandals or flip flops! While you’re there, visit the Fog Horn House museum next door.Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Advance reservations are a must. Call 262-880-8266. Visit www.windpointlighthouse.com

 

Celebrating the USA.  Tailfins and chrome classics will be easy to find from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday (Labor Day) at the Made in America Car and Bike Show. The show will be held at the Caledonia-Mount Pleasant Park, 9614 Highway K, Franksville. The registration fee is $10.
