Super Saturday and a Great Weekend

The first Saturday of September isn't just any old Saturday in Union Grove — it's Super Saturday! Also this weekend, you can experience art and chow down on great food all over Racine County.


A super day. Super Saturday in Union Grove isn't hype — it's a full day of family fun. The day gets underway at 9:30 a.m. at Village Square Park with the "Kids are People Too" show. A chance to play laser tag is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The third annual "Union Grove's Got Talent" local talent show starts at 11 a.m. The "Superhero Fun Run/Walk is at 3 p.m. The day is capped off with the Kiwanis Club street dance at 6 p.m. with rock 'n roll from Weird Science. Throughout the day, there are crafters, clowns, face painting, tractor-trolley rides, a book sale, rummage sale, early settler demonstrations and food. An art-filled Friday. A bit of a farewell to summer is on tap for First Friday in Downtown Racine 4-9 p.m. Friday. The Racine Art Museum, 441 Main St., is open all day with free admission. A new exhibit "Birds, Boats and Beaches," featuring works from Racine Art Guild members debuts at the Racine Arts Council, 316 Sixth St. Catch live music on Monument Square, Main Street's Crosswalks Park and Paul Harris Park at the west end of Sixth Street. A block buster. Summer's end means auction time for Downtown Racine's public art project. "Summer Block Buster" will be auctioned off Saturday afternoon at Monument Square. See all of the artworks on display starting at noon. The silent auction begins at 1 p.m. followed by the voice auction at 2 p.m. Bidding numbers are now available at the Downtown Racine Corp. office, 425 Main St. DRC can also line up a proxy bidder if you're unable to attend. Celebrate tomatoes. Tomatomania celebrates all things tomato at Milaeger's, 4838 Douglas Ave. Drop by from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to sample 115 tomato varieties and 40 varieties of peppers. There will also free beer, tequila, wine, salsa and sausage tastings. Fresh bruschetta, pizza and many other food items will be available for purchase. The Extension Service Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions along with live music. Visit www.mileagers.com

 

Watermelons, too. Polish up the chrome for the Watermelon Festival, Pig Roast and Cruise-In at Swan's Pumpkin Farm, 5930 Highway H, Caledonia. It runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Enter your car in the show for free and receive a buy one-get one food coupon. They will be serving up watermelon, roast pork along with family games and live music.
