Caledonia graduate starts UWM with a little extra boost
Freshman Brennan Johnson received American Legion scholarship
Caledonia native Brennan Johnson is starting off his freshman year at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a little extra financial boost: a 2011 "Player of the Year" scholarship from the American Legion.
Johnson received the honor at Miller Park in Milwaukee on Aug. 14, where he was one of 54 young men from across the state to play in the Wisconsin American Legion All-Star Game.
The All-Star Game was played after the Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Johnson thought the ceremony would take place while no one was watching. Instead, it took place right after the National Anthem, so he was front-and-center for thousands of people right before the Brewers took the field.

"It was amazing, it was such an honor," he said.
Johnson shook hands with Corey Hart, Honorary Chairman from the Milwaukee Brewers, as he got a plaque honoring him for excellence in academics, athleticism, sportsmanship and citizenship.

"I just try to play hard and support my teammates," he said.
Johnson did do well at Union Grove High School, graduating with almost a 4.0 GPA while lettering in three varsity sports.
Interestingly, though, now that he's at UWM, he won't be playing baseball for the school's baseball team. He plans to play with a more casual league, so he can focus on school and majoring in engineering.
Johnson is the proud brother of Logan and the son of Steve and Linda Johnson of Caledonia.
