From Students To Graduates, Hundreds Honored During Horlick High School Ceremony

"It is my hope that in these four years we have made you feel worthy and valued," said Directing Principal, Angela Ress Apmann.

Hundreds of Horlick High School students listened Sunday afternoon to sentiments of inspiration, hope, and determination at their graduation ceremony.

Valedictorian, Hannah Hecht, offered words of wisdom about fears and courage, and family and friends.

“Graduation is a time of celebration,” Hecht said. “It is a day full of smiles and tears, joy and sadness. For many, graduation is full of mixed emotions.”

Directing Principal, Angela Ress Apmann, talked about finding passion and direction.

“It is my hope that in these four years we have made you feel worthy and valued,” she said.

Aaron Eick, a teacher at Horlick, told the crowd he never imagined he would wind up giving the keynote address at a graduation. Eick left Horlick High School in 1998 after he dropped out of high school.

Still, he earned his general education diploma, graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree in teaching and received a master’s degree, he said. “Students, don’t believe what you have done this far defines you… it online matters what you do next.”

After the students received their diplomas, they flipped their tassels across their graduation caps. Apmann congratulated them on their accomplishments, and introduced the class of 2011. Students took off their caps, threw them up in the air and cheered.

They had become graduates of Horlick High School.
