Horlick 2012 Graduates Head Into the Future

In a Sunday afternoon ceremony, Horlick High School graduates concluded their high school careers.

Prinicipal Angela Ress Apmann shared her first day at Horlick High School with the freshmen who would become the class of 2012.

At Sunday afternoon's graduation ceremony, she told students she would always remember their first day at the school, because it was her first day, too.

"This is an amazing journey you and I have shared together," she said. "I remember asking you to stand for teh pledge, and you did, but you kept talking through it. I thought, 'Oh, no. You can do better.' We did it again, and you did."

She presented two students with the Principal Leadership Scholarship — Brianna Murray and Angel Cuellar — and she recognized Salutatorian Renee Shields and Valedictorian Abigail Lyon.

Lyon gave the Farewell Address. She talked about the class's journey through high school, from image-conscious freshmen, to young men and women with "senioritis" who came to school in sweatpants.

"I'm not as good as I could be. I'm not as good as I should be, but I'm better than I used to be," she told her classmates. "We all fear the unknown of what working, college or going into the military has to offer. ... The future is what we make of it."
