The Board of Education will request proposals from seven different firms for its superintendent search process.

The board unanimously approved the criteria for that search at a business meeting held Monday, Oct. 17.

The board focused its recruitment process by approving a search type, timeline, response for proposal and proposal distribution list. The timeline calls for proposals to be submitted by Nov. 18, for a firm to be selected by Dec. 5 and for the board to approve the firm on or before Dec. 12.

Initial proposal requests will be distributed to BWP & Associates, Cascade Consulting Group, Hazard, Young Attea & Associates, Ltd., McPherson & Jacobson LLC, Ray and Associates, Inc., Wisconsin Association of School Boards and Aspen Group, International, Inc.

Susan Kutz, who also chairs the Superintendent Search Committee and is the Board Vice President, said the groups that were chosen are larger search firms.

“There are other search firms, but we’re outside of their area of expertise,” she said.

Recruitment and selection of the new superintendent will be complete by May 25, 2012 or sooner, according to the request for proposal. A hybrid search process will be utilized, wherein the Search Committee drives the selection process and retains control over the ultimate candidate selection.

“The Response for Proposal template is very similar to what we used in 2007,” Kutz said.

The superintendent position is open because Jim Shaw, the prior superintendent, retired on Sept. 1.
