Racine Unified Superintendent Talks About Parent Engagement

What does parent engagement mean and how is the district trying to overcome the barriers to education -- by setting expectations for parents and partnering with them to make that happen.

This is the third video of a five-part series of an interview with Racine Unified Superintendent Dr. Jim Shaw and Mount Pleasant-Sturtevant and Caledonia editors. In this segment, Shaw outlines what parents can do to engage their children in education and specific programs the district has to address those concerns.

Parent engagement seems to be the buzzword in getting kids to learn. Dr. Jim Shaw, the superintendent for Racine Unified said the district measures parent engagement and looks for ways to help parents become more engaged. From reading programs to taking more time to talk with children, Shaw points to several initiatives the district uses to help kids learn.
