RUSD Calendars: Spring Break Scheduled for Early March 2012 and 2013
The date change is part of recently completed contract negotiations.
Forget about things like robins and daffodils, the Racine Unified School District’s Spring Break will take place in early March for the next two years.
School calendars, adopted this week as part of the 2011-13 contract with the Racine Education Association, include a one-week break—called Spring Recess—in the first full week of March. The break will be March 5-9 in 2012 and March 4-8 in 2013.
"Spring break has traditionally been the week following Easter," said Keri Hanstedt, RUSD employee relations manager. "The March dates were scheduled to try to provide some stability.”

The date of Easter varies from year-to-year. It is celebrated on the first Sunday immediately following the Paschel (Passover) full moon. The dates can range from March 22 to April 25, according to the website godweb.org.
Easter has recently fallen near both ends of the range. In 2008, Easter was on March 23. For 2011, it falls on April 24.

Oh, and for those planning ahead, RUSD’s first day of school for 2011-12 is Sept. 1 and will be Sept. 4, 2012, for the 2012-13 school year.
