Smits Earns Roosevelt PTA Scholarship

She is a girl with a goal.

Stephanie Smits was among 25 high school seniors, who received scholarships at the annual Racine PTA Council Scholarship and Awards banquet held earlier this month at the Racine Marriott.

One of the groups she lists among her extra-curricular activities is a club called “Girls With Goals.”  And that seems to describe her perfectly.  Stephanie plans to attend UW–Madison and major in actuarial science in preparation for a career in the insurance industry.  While at college, her goals are to be in the top 10 percent of her class academically and take part in two or more extra curricular activities each year.

Stephanie has always been involved in lots of sports and organizations, starting at Bull Fine Arts Elementary School and Jerstad-Agerhold Middle School, when she earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award. At Horlick she played volleyball, basketball, and soccer, serving as a team captain and earning sportsmanship, all-academic, and tri-athlete honors. She’s also found employment related to volleyball, working as a referee at Castle Lanes and for City League games. She was active in Math club, pep club, the school newspaper, student congress, and was one of Horlick’s representatives to Badger Girls State last year.

Stephanie has also served as a teacher’s assistant throughout high school and volunteered two years with Habitat for Humanity.

Good luck Stephanie, on reaching these goals, and any others you may set for yourself.  Congratulations on being the recipient of the 2011 Roosevelt PTA Scholarship.
