Vos Calls Senate Dems "Despicable"

Rep. Robin Vos said Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill will pass when they show up for work.

State Rep. Robin Vos (R-Rochester) said he respects people’s right to march and voice their opinion, but his constituents largely favor Gov. Scott Walker’s budget repair bill.

With Senate Democrats, who were expected to vote on the bill Thursday, still missing, Vos said the democrats are “just upset that their guy lost.”

Gov. Walker and Vos have talked for months about their beef with state unions.

At issue, is balancing the state budget, Vos said.

He also pointed to state unions leaving the negotiation table in September.

“They said no and their guy lost the election…then they tried to ram through the contracts in December,” Vos said. “Anyone who says this is about collective bargaining rights and not the budget – that’s a bold face lie.”

Vos said union members will still have a grievance process and that most of the things in the collective bargaining agreement are contained in the civil service protection.

“You still have the right to join the union,” Vos said.

Vos said the bill would pass when the Democrats start showing up for work and called what they were doing “despicable.”

Over the years Vos said he too was frustrated with the Democrats when they held the majority.

“When I was frustrated, I came and I agued, and often times I came, argued and lost. What I realized was that I had to work harder in the fall,” he said. “If every time someone was unhappy and we left town, it would disrupt the basic foundation of democracy.”
