Milwaukee Brewer Corey Hart Shares His Faith At Caledonia Church

God works in mysterious ways, but Corey Hart shares how his faith made him a better father and husband.

Milwaukee Brewer outfielder Corey Hart talked a little baseball at a church in Caledonia last Saturday, but his main reason for his trip to was to talk about God.

He talked about his faith at Grace Church -- not in a surreal kind of way, but in a painfully honest and personal kind of way. Hart and other athletes with stories of faith shared those at a Nov. 17 event in Caledonia.

Caledonia resident and Brewers bullpen coach Marcus “Koos” Hanel; Racine native and safety for the Seattle Seahawks Chris Maragos; Racine native and former catcher for Milwaukee Brewers minor league team Jason Jaramillo; and catcher for the Dodgers AJ Ellis spoke at Hart’s event called “Heart to Hart.”

Hart talked about his failings as a man, a husband and father. And he told about a rather humbling moment when his nine-year-old daughter Alyssa asked him about God. The questions were basic, Bible 101-type questions that he didn’t know the answer to and he started reading.

According to a story in the Racine Journal Times:

If I would have known the importance of faith and being a good Christian, I would have been in the big leagues a lot faster and I would have been a better man a lot faster. It’s just one of those things where it takes time to grow up sometimes and you don’t want to see what’s right in front of you.

Obviously, I see that now and I’m way happier.

Caledonia resident Wayne Beilgard serves as the Brewers chaplain and he has a service for the team.

“Corey avoided me for six years,” Beilgard said. “Now that he believes in God, he loves his wife better, love his children better and doesn’t hang around with the wrong crowd. He’s become a very soft tenderhearted man now… love actually changes people.”
