Cub Scouts Find More Than Trash on Their Clean-Up Day

The service project also included a few surprises.

Quarry Lake Park is a little cleaner thanks to the efforts of Pack 141's Tiger Cub Scouts.

The group officially adopted the park, which means that at least three times a year they will be going out to the park to clean up garbage and keep the park clean for everyone. Their first clean-up day was on Saturday.

The boys wanted to make sure the park was very clean for a free fishing clinic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 16 at Quarry Lake Park. 3800 Northwestern Ave. The clinic is being hosted by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

On Saturday the boys picked up 17 bags full of trash from the grassy areas of the park.

“We found lots of paper, quite a few golf balls, a hub cap, and filled an entire bag full of aluminum cans (which we are collecting for a future can drive) and a lot of fast food garbage,” said Melissa Schroeder, a Cub Scout leader.

But the boys didn’t just find garbage at the park.

They also found a hidden Geocache, a beaver’s den and a lot of downed trees.

After all of their hard work, the kids all had a snack of trail mix that they made themselves and juice.

“We had a lot of fun and look forward to keeping the park clean for everyone in Caledonia to enjoy,” Schroeder said.
