Zumbathon Raises Money For Memorial Fund For Fallen Soldier

The Daniel Wyatt Memorial Ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. July 9 at Crawford Park.

Over a dozen kids and their moms came out for a little recreation and supported a good cause during a Zumbathon at the Caledonia Community Center last week.

Jenny Petrick, who helped organize the event, held the salsa influenced excercise class to help raise money for the Daniel Wyatt Memorial Fund.

She raised $170, which fell short of her goal.

"But at least it's something," she said.

Petrick has known the Wyatt family for years. And when she heard that a was being built to honor Daniel Wyatt, who was killed in Iraq in 2004, she decided to help raise money to help pay for it.

Last month, the Village Board approved a resolution to name the concession stand and the baseball diamond area the “Lance Corporal Daniel Wyatt Memorial Ball Diamond” at Crawford Park. The park is located at 5199 Chester Lane. A flagpole will also be erected and a plaque will be at the base of the flagpole. A ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. July 9.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Lance Cpl. Wyatt and his family. Thank you to Lance Cpl. Wyatt, and to all veterans, for serving this great country. Also, thanks, Jenny for your fundraising efforts, and to the Village for providing the honor to this Marine. The concession stand name, flagpole and plaque will be a nice honor to bestow.
