62nd Assembly Rep.-Elect Tom Weatherston (R-Caledonia) will put his experience as a Vietnam War vet to work for state committee.
Representative-elect Tom Weatherston (R-Caledonia) was appointed as the vice chairman of the Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs by assembly speaker-elect Robin Vos on Tuesday. Weatherston, who is also a trustee on the Caledonia Village Board, served in the Air Force in the Vietnam War. He’s active in his VFW post, serves on the local Honor Guard, and was past president of the Racine Area Veterans, Inc. Weatherston said he is honored by the appointment. “As a veteran myself, I look forward to dealing with issues that concern other veterans and military families in our state,” he stated in a press release. “With my long experience of being involved with local veterans groups, I hope to bring a unique perspective to the committee. I …

Tom Weatherston writes a letter to the editor thanking his supporters for electing him to the 62nd Assembly seat.
I would first of all like to thank the people of the 62nd District for giving me the chance to represent them in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Voters in Wind Lake, Raymond, Caledonia, Racine, Wind Point, North Bay, and Mt. Pleasant went to the polls last Tuesday and made their choice. I am honored by their decision and I will work to represent all of the citizens of the district. I would also like to thank all of my supporters and volunteers who made this possible. I could not have done this alone and I am grateful for their continued support. When the Legislature starts its new session in January, I will get to work immediately on bringing jobs to Racine County, reducing government waste, and keeping taxes low. Working with my new …

Iron worker Randy Bryce faced educator Melissa Lemke in Tuesday's Democratic primary in the 62nd Assembly, while Republican Tom Weatherston is unopposed.
Democratic voters in the newly created 62nd Assembly District will choose between political newcomers on the primary election ballot on Tuesday. Randy Bryce, a 47-year-old iron worker, who lives in Caledonia will face Melissa Lemke, a 30-year-old public health educator and researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee who resides in Racine. The top vote-getter will all but certainly take on Republican candidate Tom Weatherston of Racine in the November election. Weatherston is unopposed in Tuesday's primary. The district, which had its boundaries redrawn as part of the redistricting process, now includes Caledonia, some of Racine, and some of Mount Pleasant. Here's where the candidates in the Democratic primary stand on several key…

Randy Bryce is a Democratic candidate for the 62nd Assembly. He held his first fundraiser Thursday at Greg's Catering in Caledonia.
The primary reason Randy Bryce is running for the state Assembly is because he believes working people are not represented in Madison. "And not just union employees," he said, "but all residents who felt like they had to take to the streets because they just weren't being heard." He is running for the open seat in the 62nd Assembly District. The vacancy came about when, because of redistricting, Rep. Cory Mason (D-Racine) moved into the 66th District. Bryce will face fellow Democrat Melissa Lemke in the Aug. 14 partisan primary. The winner of that race will face off against Republican Tom Weatherston in November. Bryce's campaign mentor (he doesn't like the term "manager") Jeff Van Koningsfeld said what it comes down to, really, is that …

A total of four candidates are vying for a position in the newly formed 62nd Assembly District and yes... there's probably going to be a primary.
A Democratic primary election has become a possibility for the newly redistricted 62nd State Assembly seat now that a second Democratic candidate has announced their candidacy. Randy Bryce, 1718 Dale Drive, announced his bid for candidacy this afternoon. “With the current volatile political atmosphere in Wisconsin, I seek to build bridges so that all of the people in the State can have their voice heard," Bryce said. "Our government should be accessible, transparent, and, accountable. I seek to stop giving breaks to those who can afford it while the majority of working America keeps being told to make more sacrifices. I refuse to accept cuts to our services while property taxes are raised.” Bryce, 47, of Caledonia, is a political …
