Local baseball and softball players can stay on their game at Starting 9 in Mount Pleasant.
The weather's turning frightful so baseball and softball players are looking for an indoor home where they can keep their skills sharp. In Mount Pleasant, Starting Nine Baseball Academy, 6201 Regency West Drive, is welcoming local ball players with open arms, including one in the pros. Nate Mikolas, an outfielder in the New York Yankees organization, is using Starting Nine this offseason to prepare for spring training. Mikolas, who was drafted in the third round in last year’s MLB draft out of Bradford High School, likes the atmosphere at Starting Nine and how owner Jim Broadway makes teaching fun. “I picked Starting Nine as my place to hit during the offseason because it has everything that I need to prepare myself for spring training,” …

All-star first baseman will answer questions, post exclusive videos and share advice for young athletes in new, regular feature on Patch.
Good news, Milwaukee baseball fans! There’s a high-priced, power-hitting, left-handed first baseman on the way. Not to play for the Brewers, of course. Instead, Patch users young and old can tap into the expertise of New York Yankees star Mark Teixeira, who has been named “Commissioner of Patch Baseball.” Teixeira, a four-time Gold Glove winner and two-time All-Star, will interact with Patch users by regularly responding to questions, sharing baseball tips, and posting exclusive videos. The free annual event gets families playing together.
The Racine Family YMCA invites all area families to visit today from 1 to 4 pm for the free annual Healthy Kids Day event. Parents and kids will have a chance to play some family games, splash around during pool games, and tumble around during gymnastics. Kids can also get a taste of summer day camp and everyone can partitipate in the mini-health fair. Soccer, softball and baseball registration times and details available.
It may be snowing outside, but we need to start spring sports sign-ups and then there will be summer camps and programs. Caledonia has two sports registrations underway. These are the two local sports with deadlines this month. Please stay tuned as we will compile a list of some of the many summer opportunties available for the local Caledonia children.
