Despite heavy criticism from neighbors, the Village President wants to know if he has the Board's support to move forward with the Walmart project.
The Village Board will decide whether to draft an amendment to the land use plan at a Board meeting tonight that could allow a Walmart to be built on State Highway 31 and Four Mile Road. But the discussion won't be specific to just that corner. Rather, the Board will consider a study that could change the land use plan for all of Highway 31 in Caledonia. A California company has revitalized an old building in Caledonia and found a way to make eco-friendly building materials out of ash from the nearby We Energies power plant. The Racine Unified School District’s new Administrative Service Center will occupy two buildings on the former Surgitek campus on Mount Pleasant Street, the School Board’s audit committee was told Monday. David Hazen, RUSD chief financial officer, shared floor plans that showed how the buildings will likely be used when district offices are relocated later this year from 2220 Northwestern Ave. The School Board late last year purchased the former Surgitek buildings and land for $3.8 million. The deal included the sale of the Northwestern Avenue site for $500,000.
