McKinley Seventh Grader Wins Video and Drawing Recognitions

Jonathan Mills said both of his projects relate to current world issues.

Seventh grader Jonathan Mills has had a successful year with his artwork. The McKinley Middle Schooler and his team placed third with documentary project for C-Span, and he also took grand prize for his school’s PTA Reflections art contest, for which he submitted a drawing about unity. Considering film as a possible career choice, Jonathan described "Let There Be Light," the film his team produced. It’s also available at http://www.cspanvideo.org/program/Moes. “We created a documentary about LED lighting and how it relates to the federal government,” Jonathan said.  “The film was about eight minutes long and it took a few months to make. The message was that LED lighting is a good choice and it’s going to be very effective in the future.” …

Area Teens in Kenya Filming Another Documentary After Taking Honors Again in C-SPAN Competition

The interview with the filmmakers will air tomorrow, Easter Sunday, but they won't see it until they return.

On Sunday, an interview with Caledonia student Madison Richards will air on C-SPAN (Cable Satellite Public Affairs Network). She’ll be talking about the documentary film, “Have Gun—Will Carry” that she created with her partner, Samantha Noll of Sturtevant. The film garnered a a high school second-prize win in C-SPAN’s 2011 StudentCam competition.  Trouble is, the girls won’t be around to see the interview broadcast—and besides, that documentary is already so last year.
