Gas Explosion Causes Caledonia Barn Fire

A man trying to put gas in his truck accidentally started his barn on fire Tuesday and firefighters from neighboring jurisdictions were called out to put out the blaze.

A barn started on fire after a man accidentally spilled gasoline onto a light bar that fell while he was trying to put gas in his truck at 11:31 a.m. Tuesday at 12820 Adams Road. According to a report by the Caledonia Police Department, the homeowner told them the gas exploded into flames and he dropped the gas can. The man told police he was OK, but he had some smoke inhalation and some of his hair was singed. Rescue personnel from the Caledonia Fire Department treated the man at the scene.  Because there weren’t any fire hydrants in the area, water had to be brought in by tanker trucks. UPDATE: Off-Duty Police Officers Save Two Dogs In House Fire, No One Injured

Caledonia fire and police along with South Shore responded to a structure fire in Caledonia Saturday night.

No one was injured during a garage fire, but police officers saved two dogs from a residence Saturday night. Neighbors called 911 after they noticed black smoke pouring out of the eaves of the home around the garage at 6:40 p.m. at a residence located at 4847 Aberdeen Drive. Two off-duty officers with the Caledonia Police Department broke down the door after to see if anyone was inside. Homeowners Brett and Deborah McDonald were not inside at the time, but the officers saved their two dogs from the residence. Fire personnel from the Caledonia Fire and the South Shore departments along with officers from the Caledonia Police Department responded to the scene. UPDATE: Power Restored To 1,000 We Energies Customers After Car Crash

A car that crashed into a utility pole ignited in the 5100 block of Four Mile Road, which knocked out the power. But the power is back on now.

About 1,000 We Energies customers were without power after a car struck a pole in the 5100 block of 4-Mile Road at about 8:42 p.m. According to authorities, a single-car collision with a utility pole sparked the flames that may also be engulfing a near-by tree. Crews from We Energies had the power restored at about 10 p.m. David Core, 38, of Racine, was cited for driving too fast for conditions and reckless driving. A witness told Patch he heard a loud crash and went to see what had happened. The witness, who did not want to be named, said they saw a tree on fire, and Core, who had been driving the car, was out of the vehicle.
