Police: Elderly Man Exposed Himself to Neighbors on Mother's Day

Neighbors called police after a long-time resident reportedly exposed himself to them on Mother's Day.

A 77-year-old man is facing two misdemeanor charges after police say he exposed himself to neighbors on Mother's Day. Melvin Brown, of Caledonia, was charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct and one misdemeanor count of lewd and lascivious behavior. Neighbors called police Sunday because a woman said Brown exposed himself to her twice while she was out mowing her grass, according to a story in The Journal Times. Apparently this isn't the first time, either, the JT reports. This same neighbor told police that Brown has shown himself to her before, and Caledonia police say they found municipal citations for similar incidents from 2000 and 2006.

Police say a 44-year-old Caledonia man led them on a chase that ended with the car crashed and the man tasered.

Police: Man Says He Stole Steaks and Vodka Because 'Times are Tough'

Caledonia police say a man took expensive bottles of vodka and good cuts of beef to store in a location he uses for "hard times."

A 58-year-old Racine man is facing theft charges after Caledonia police say he stole two bottles of pricey vodka one day from Pick 'n' Save and then went back the next day for Porterhouse steaks. Ivan Robinson was charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with two counts of misdemeanor retail theft and two counts of felony bail jumping, repeater. If convicted, he faces up to 13-1/2 years in prison and/or up to $40,000 in fines. The bail jumping charges stem from charges filed against Robinson in January for possession of a firearm by a felon. He was out of jail on a $500 cash bond, a condition of which includes not committing new crimes. According to the criminal complaint, Caledonia police were called to Pick 'n' Save, 5111 Douglas …

Warrant Expected for Man Accused of Identity Theft

An Illinois man is wanted in Racine County for allegedly using other people's identification to steal a variety of goods - including ads for escort services.

A warrant is expected to be issued for the arrest of Keith Mansfield of Winthrop Harbor, IL, because he didn't make his initial appearance Thursday to face charges of identity theft. Mansfield, 28, is wanted in Racine County for allegedly stealing the identities of at least two women and using their credit cards to purchase a variety of goods including placing ads for escort services, a motorcycle, and songs from iTunes. According to the criminal complaint, Mansfield was the roommate of a Caledonia woman and a man for whom she was a caregiver, but the woman asked Mansfield to move out because she suspected he was selling prescription medication. Caledonia police say the woman contacted them in December 2012 to report charges on her account…

Two Years After Accident, Formal OWI Charges Filed

A Caledonia couple was injured in an accident in Feb. 2011. The man who hit them is accused of driving under the influence.

A Delavan man accused of driving under the influence of prescription drugs when he caused a car accident that injured two people in 2011 was charged Thursday. Court records indicate charges were files on April 10, and Angel Burgos, formerly of Milwaukee, appeared Thursday in Racine County Circuit Court to face charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance causing injury, second or subsequent offense and operating while intoxicated causing injury, second or subsequent offense. If convicted of both felonies, he could face up to 12 years in prison and/or up to $20,000 in fines. Because Burgos has previous OWI convictions, he could get more time tacked onto any sentence he might receive. According to the criminal complaint, …

Ha ha! A $1,000 signature bond? That means "sign here and away you go". Of course, he is going to keep his promise not to use any controlled substances and/or drink and drive, right? Oh wait-this charge is labeled "second or subsequent offense". I wonder if the next car he plows into will result in a fatality?   more ›

Police: Man Fights Officers After Boat Rescue

When the road is closed because of flooding waters, it's best to pay attention and turn around rather than keep going.

During last week's hard rain, police say a Milwaukee man ignored signs closing County Line road, and he got stuck. The situation got progressively worse from there. Eddie Keaton, 32, was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Monday with two felony counts of resisting an officer, causing a soft tissue injury and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. If convicted, he faces up to 12 years, 3 months in jail and/or up to $21,000 in fines. According to the criminal complaint, Caledonia police responded at 9:30 p.m. Friday to reports of a car stuck in the water on County Line Road east of Nicholson Road. Officers could only get within 60 yards of the vehicle so they called the Caledonia Fire Department for a boat to rescue the driver, …

Caledonia police and fire are on scene for a multiple vehicle accident on Douglas Avenue. The driver that allegedly caused the crash may have been having medical problems, say officials with the Caledonia Police Department.

School Bus Fire Shuts Down 3-Mile Road

Caledonia Fire Department responded to a small school bus on fire Wednesday west of the intersection of 3-Mile Road and Douglas Avenue.

A small school bus started on fire unexpectedly Wednesday morning, but students were not on the bus and the bus driver was not injured. According to Wally Leininger of the Caledonia Fire Department, the bus was headed west on 3-Mile Road and crossing the tracks when the bus driver stopped and opened the door to check for a train. "She noticed smoke coming from the vent so she discharged the extinguisher into the vent," he said. "Another bus responded and waited with her, but they saw more smoke that turned into flames." The drivers called dispatch at Durham Bus Company, who called 911, Leininger added.  By the time firefighters arrived, the bus was fully engulfed, including the passenger area. CFD had to use a dry chemical extinguisher …

2 Dogs Rescued, New President Elected, 4-Mile Road Project Update

Dogs being rescued edged out elections as the top story in Caledonia this week.

Caledonia residents headed to the polls this week, but our story about election results was not our most read story of the week. Instead, that honor goes to the rescue of two dogs from a pond of freezing water by the Caledonia Fire Department. A mama and her pup ventured out onto ice that was too thin to support them, but firefighters waded out and brought them to safety. Bob Bradley getting elected as the village's new president certainly caught readers' attention. Incumbent Trustees Jim Dobbs and Kevin Wanggaard retained their seats while former Trustee David Prott will once again take the oath, filling the seat after Kathy Burton decided not to run for re-election. The 4-Mile Road project is nearing completion. No, really, it is! …
