Work has begun in the Kremer subdivision taking down trees in the right-of-way so sewer and water lines can be replaced and the road reconstructed.
Trees targeted for removal to make way for sewer work in the Kremer subdivision have started to come down. A group of residents in the neighborhood remain opposed to the project because after sewer and water lines are replaced, the road will be reconstructed wider and with curb and gutter. There is also an issue with the anticipated special assessment because residents have not yet been told how much of the bill they'll have to pay. Work in Kremer is expected to wrap up later this year.

If a storm sewer fee the village is considering gets approval from the village board, some larger storm sewer users could see their bills increase by thousands of dollars while some single-family customers could see their bills go down. And tax-exempt properties may be seeing a new bill that, in some cases, could total thousands of dollars for storm water run-off projects. The village board and the storm sewerage utility district tabled the decision to create a storm water fee charge after several village board members on Monday question the fairness of the charge. Still, the board is still considering implementing a user fee that all property owners would have to pay — instead of just the customers in the two storm sewer utility districts…

Right now the village pays for storm sewer projects through a line on item on the tax levy, but the Village Board is considering making it a user fee.
To pay for storm sewer projects, the Caledonia Village Board is looking at implementing a user fee that all property owners would have to pay — instead of just the customers in the two storm sewer utility districts. The Village Board and storm sewer utility districts met Monday night to also talk about merging the Lake Michigan Storm Sewer Utility District and the Root River Storm Sewer Utility District. Officials also will talk about implementing a storm water fee charge using an equivalent residential unit formula for funding the storm sewer utility commission. Incumbent Village President Ron Coutts loses his seat to Bob Bradley. Two incumbents on the Village Board—Jim Dobbs and Kevin Wanggaard—keep their seats. And David Prott returns to the Village Board after having been gone for a few years.
Bob Bradley has unseated incumbent Village President Ron Coutts, in Tuesday's election. He is the only challenger to have successfully unseated an incumbent. In the trustee races, incumbents Jim Dobbs and Kevin Wanggaard have kept their seats, and David Prott will join them on the board. Prott previously served on the Board in 2005. “I’m excited, honored and humbled," Bradley said. "I hope that I can live up to everyone’s expectations. But I also appreciate all of the hard work Ron has done over the years. Hopefully I can fill his shoes.” Once in office, Bradley plans to focus his attention on getting water out to Interstate 94 to help attract development. Jim Tiderman, a Caledonia resident running for village trustee, has decided not to run.
Citing a work conflict, Jim Tiderman, a candidate for the Village Trustee 3 spot, has announced that he will drop out of the race. Tiderman is part of a group that has staunchly opposed the Walmart development. Even though Tiderman made the announcement on the No Walmart in Rural Caledonia Facebook page, his name will remain on the ballot because he can't legally take it off. Here's what he wrote: I wanted to let everyone know right away that due to my conflicting work schedule in the transportation industry, I will not be running for Trustee Seat #3. Caledonia voters on Feb. 19 will head to polls to cast ballot in primary races for the Racine Unified School District Board of Education and Trustee No. 3 spot on the Village Board.
