National Winner Announced in Patch's Deck the House Contest

Georgia family receives thousands of votes to win Patch's Deck the House contest and $100,000 for their local school district.

In this year's Deck the House contest, the second time was the charm. Joseph Felix's home in Dallas, GA outshined the other 24 finalists to win the 2012 Deck the House contest and $100,000 for the Paulding County, GA school district. After placing second in the nationwide voting in the 2011 contest, the Felix home received nearly 11,000 votes this year to finally win Deck the House. The home, with 100,000 computer animated holiday lights choreographed to Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You," received about 300 more votes than a home in Coventry, R.I., which finished in second place. There were two national finalists from Wisconsin in the contest:  Judging by the 80 comments on the Felixes' Deck the House submission, visiting …

Deck the House Contest: This House Could Win $100,000 for Racine Unified Schools

This Caledonia house is one of the 24 finalists in Patch’s Deck the House contest. Vote now to help this entry win $100,000 for Racine Unified schools.

Could this be the best “decked” house in the country? Possibly. Congrats to Mike and Debbie Pikula, whose Jamestown lights display has been chosen as one of the 24 finalists in our Deck the House contest. We had tons of national entries in this year’s Deck the House contest and in our quest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in the country, we’ve seen everything from a life-size Santa to holiday lights so bright they could blind the neighbors. We loved seeing everyone’s holiday spirit, but Deck the House isn’t over yet. We’re still looking for the one home so spectacularly decorated that it could be the national grand prize winner of our contest—and it could be a home from right here in Caledonia. Until Dec. 27, vote in our …

Check Out the Best “Decked” House in Caledonia

You voted and this house was the top local vote-getter in our Deck the House contest.

Update: The Pikulas have been selected as a national winner. Congratulations! But they need your votes to win the $100,000 for Racine Unified.  Who has the best “decked” house in Caledonia? According to users who voted in our annual Deck the House contest, the Pikulas' Jamestown subdivision home—decked each year by Mike and Debbie with a programmed, musical light display featuring a talking Christmas tree named Douglas Fir—has the best holiday lights here.  We had tons of national entries in this year’s Deck the House contest and in our quest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in the country, we’ve seen everything from a life-size Santa to holiday lights so bright they could blind the neighbors. We loved showcasing everyone’…

As much as I agree your house is the best I've seen yet Mike, I can't see giving RUSD the $100,000 when they spend money so badly...sorry :( If they would get better money managers I would have no problem with this but the way they do things now it's like flushing away the money.   more ›

Christmas Lights Labor of Love for Caledonia Man

Learn more about Caledonia's Deck the House frontrunner Mike Pikula's fabulous display in the Jamestown subdvision, and check out the other entries. Don't forget to cast your vote; the contest ends Sunday.

Three Caledonia houses have been entered in Patch’s Deck the House competition. Featuring music, lights, talking trees and jingling bells, the entries are stunning. There’s still time to see the decorations in person or online and vote for your favorite. You can vote once a day per entry. The house with the highest number of votes from Caledonia will move on to the judging round—and potentially become a regional winner. Voting ends Sunday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. Regional winners of the contest will receive $500 to help offset their utility bills and $100,000 will be donated to the national winner’s public school district. For Mike Pikula, over-the-top decorating for Christmas is a long-time hobby. He moved to Caledonia in 2009 and told the …

Debbie and I would like to thank everyone that voted for our light display this year. It means a lot that you showed appreciation for all the hours of work each year we put into the show. If you have not seen the display, it runs every night from 5 until 10 P.M. Enter the subdivision on Taurus Drive from highway 38 (Northwestern Ave). It will be on the left as you drive between the ponds on …   more ›

Caledonia Christmas Lights Need Your Votes

Three Caledonia residents have uploaded pictures of their Christmas lights for Patch's Deck the House contest. We'd love to see more—especially since there's $100,000 on the line for the Racine Unified School District.

A little friendly competition never hurts, especially when there’s $100,000 on the line! So if you think your holiday decorations are the best in town, upload a picture of your house and enter our Deck the House Contest. And don’t worry about all those lights racking up the utility bill because if you’re voted a finalist Patch will give you up to $500 to cover the expense. Mike Pikula uploaded the above picture to our contest—and if you look closely you can see there's a direction to tune your radio to 99.7 FM, presumably for some auditory Christmas spirit to go along with the lights. He also has posted video of the Jamestown subdivision light show on Facebook. We know some of you out there may have decorations up that aren’t as …
