Things are looking pretty ugly out there with the traffic backed up along I-43 southbound and I-94 southbound and westbound. The DOT is reporting delays as much as a half hour.
If you drive home using I-43 southbound to downtown, or are using I-94 southbound going out of Milwaukee, then you might want to consider taking a different route home. The delays, which are expected to last through 6 p.m., are due to long-term lane closures and Friday rush hour traffic. Neither Patch nor our media partners at WISN 12 have heard of any major incidents. Here are the areas affected and the travel times, according to the state Department of Transportation.

If you are a veteran and you have a military license to operate commercial vehicles, you can get a CDL license.
Veterans and current military employees who have a military license to operate military commercial vehicles, may be able to use it to obtain a Wisconsin commercial driver license (CDL) without having to take the CDL knowledge and skills exams. Wisconsin Department of Transportation Secretary Mark Gottlieb said the department’s Division of Motor Vehicles worked to standardize the CDL application process to make it easier to consider military experience and skills. “This type of recognition is significant because it acknowledges that previous military experience and skills are transferrable in the civilian labor force and employers benefit from that,” Secretary Gottlieb said. “If you drove a commercial military vehicle, you can use that …

The 'digital chevron' system installed will be a first in the state.
Commuters, take note: The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will implement a new technology in the Marquette Interchange from the I-94 eastbound ramp to northbound I-43 in starting July 12. The installation will close the right lane on I-94 eastbound between the 13th Street exit and the connector ramp to I-43 northbound from July 12-15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. While travel times may be longer, John Oimoen, manager with WisDOT, said the operation will ultimately improve operations and safety on our transportation network.” He also said “a new dynamic chevron system is a cost-effective way to help motorists stay alert and monitor their speeds in this area.” This system is the first of its kind in Wisconsin and WisDOT said benefits…

More than 491,000 Wisconsin residents have motorcycle licenses or permits and more than 333,000 motorcycles are registered in the state, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. What would you call I-94 where its general direction is SE/NW? It may be just as well if you go back to the old stand-by "Go that way past the Johnson place and turn where we had the wheat field". The Johnsons haven't lived there since '63 and we haven't farmed since the plow horse died, but we all know what you are talking about.   more ›
