Finance Committee Approves Purchase Of Cardiac Support Device For Fire Department

Fire Chief hopes to purchase refurbished AutoPulse, would would be department's third such device.

Members of the Caledonia Finance Committee unanimously approved the purchase of a life-saving device for the fire department during their meeting on Tuesday.  Fire Chief Dick Roeder requested the funds to purchase a refurbished AutoPulse, a non-invasive cardiac support device, which will be placed at the department's Nicholson Road station.  The cost of the device will be $9,924, including the warranty, according to minutes from the meeting. A new AutoPulse runs about $15,000.  Within its approval, the members said that if the refurbished unit is not available, then they would recommend approval of a new AutoPulse.  The device, made by Zoll, automatically preforms chest compressions, allowing for more blood to flow to the brain during a …

Confusion Over Northwestern Address Delays Response To Car Crash

The wrong fire department was sent to a car crash Monday morning because there are two intersections along Northwestern Avenue with similar names. Ultimately, things got sorted out, but officials say the dispatcher should have mapped the calls.

A dispatcher sent the Caledonia Fire Department to a report of a two-car crash with injuries on Golf and Northwestern at 10:10 a.m. Monday, but the location of the intersection proved to be a source of confusion that delayed the response time. A county dispatcher initially sent the Caledonia Fire Department to the intersection of Golf Road and Northwestern Avenue in Franksville, when the crash was really at the intersection of Golf Avenue and Northwestern Avenue in the City of Racine, according to reports by Racine Uncovered that were confirmed by the Racine County Dispatch Center. Jay... great insight. When I was talking to Jackie she said she had just come off the floor from training the dispatchers again and reinforcing the procedures. She also mentioned that in Racine County there are several instances of this. And I sensed that she was taking this very seriously and owning up to where things went wrong.   more ›
