That’s because manufacturers of fake pot -- sold in gas stations under brand names like “K2,” “Spice,” “Extreme XXX” and “Blaze” -- are skirting drug laws here and across the country by re-formulating their chemical compounds. Officials say retailers are selling it here and they want to ban it.
UPDATE: The Village Board will have a first and second reading, and possible adoption on a resolution that would ban fake pot at their meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the East Side Community Center, 6156 Douglas Avenue. Officials with the Legislative and Licensing Committee said they plan to ban the possession of synthetic marijuana in Caledonia. The Committee met yesterday to discuss the issue because John Barnes, interim police chief, said a few retailers in the area had sold the products in their store. “This is something new that is marketed as incense…people are smoking it and it produces a high similar to pot,” Barnes said. “This is becoming a health concern.” The mind-altering drug is being blamed for the death of an Iowa teen and can …

Committee will look at several key items on Tuesday afternoon.
The Legislative and Licensing Committee is expected to consider several resolutions at a meeting to be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The Committee will discuss a resolution that would revise the village’s special assessment policy for street construction and reconstruction improvements on Three Mile Road. The changes would impact how all properties would be assessed. But the Committee is also considering resurfacing and reconstructing Three Mile Road between Douglas Avenue and Main Street. Reconstructing a road costs more than resurfacing a road. Because of the economy, the Committee is looking at how they can soften the blow of entities who would be assessed. It appears that the k2 incense folks were switching out ingredients in their k2 herb blends once a specific ingredient was indeed banned. Lawmakers are now closing that loophole, but I'm sure this won't be the end of synthetic marijuana products. Even now, places like http://www.k2incenseblend.com have legal everywhere products.
