Name: Kelsey Schaefer School: Case High School, Grade 12 Program: Health Youth Apprenticeship What was your favorite part of YA? I liked being able to work in the health related field, and being able to make connections. What are your plans for next year? I am attending Winona State University in Minnesota. I plan to study in the Physical Therapy field, and one day become a Physical Therapist. How has YA prepared you to be ready for a college or a career? It helped me build my leadership skills, and my communication skills have improved greatly as well. It taught me how to manage my time better and also gave me a better understanding of the medical field.

We got the opportunity to fundraise money for different organization. I also like that I would be able to start my CNA class this summer because of the program. I made new friends. I really enjoyed the various guest speakers we had in class. With all those activities I have done this year, I liked doing the OB shadows the best. How has YA prepared you to be ready for a college or a career? Being in this program gave me multiple options toward college and my career. I have enjoyed the outstanding work experience I have had working at Elizabeth Residence- Assisted Living Home in Caledonia. I have loved being able to help out the residents who need my care, and enjoyed the added responsibilities my employer has given me. The staff is all really nice too! It was great to see my supervisor writing stuff about what a responsible person I am when she did my last employee evaluation. Elizabeth Residence-Caledonia has provided me with extra training to be able to help pass some medications. On this trip, I learned how to work on a team and develop leadership skills. I am thankful the Health Youth Apprenticeship has given me a job at Shopko pharmacy.
