UPDATE: Cause Of Caledonia House Fire Determined

Fire fighters and rescue workers from the Racine, Caledonia and South Shore fire departments are on scene at a house fire at 6942 Willowbrook.

UPDATE: According to a report by the Caledonia Police Department, the cause of the fire was the hundreds of cigarette butts smoldering in a plastic bucket near the back door of the residence. ORIGINAL STORY: Fire fighters, rescue and law enforcement officials battled a house fire that consumed a large portion of the back of a residence at 6942 Willowbrook Road at about 2:10 p.m. today. Sebrina Miller, who lives in the house with her brother, said she, her two boys, two dogs and two kittens were inside the house at time. "I was sitting at my computer and I saw smoke going over and I looked out the bay window and the whole back of the house was burning," she said. "I grabbed the boys and one of the dogs, who came with me, and we left." Two …

We are trying to get ahold of Sebrina. (We do not have a working number for her). We are the management company for the last place she rented from. We would like to talk to her and give her some rental options. We actually have a fully furnished, 2 bed, 2 bath condo, with a washer and dryer. It has everything from towels, linen, dishes, cable, internet, electric included. We at least would like …   more ›

PHOTOS: Vacant Home Goes Up in Controlled Blaze

The Caledonia, Kenosha, Raymond and St. Francis fire departments used a vacant home on 3 Mile Road for a controlled burn.

The home where 100-year-old human remains were found in June went up in smoke Friday, when the Caledonia Fire Department started a controlled burn on the property.  Al and Patty Ruud own the property, but have never lived in the house. They bought it in 2007, expecting to tear it down and build a new home, but then decided to buile elsewhere in Caledonia. They tried to sell the 3 Mile Road property, but no one bought it. The home sat quietly vacant until June, when a young couple trespassed on the property and discovered the human remains—eyeballs, a brain and unidentified organ preserved in jars. The remains apparently belonged to a doctor who had previously lived there. “They had intended to tear the house down anyway even before all of …

UPDATE: Cause Of House Fire On Short Road Undetermined

Homeowner, Victoria Griffin, said no one was living in the house at the time but two cats, which haven't been found and are believed to have died in the fire.

UPDATE: Jeff Henningfeld, battalion chief with the Caledonia Fire Department, said the fire wasn't suspicious, but they don't know what caused the fire.  "It's probably going to be one of those unsolved mysteries," Henningfeld said. "Due to the size of the structure and the limited resources we have to investigate fires, we can't investigate it...especially due to the advanced stage of the fire we found when we rolled up. Rumor has it that a deputy could see the from the Interstate." ORIGINAL STORY: Victoria Griffin, who owned the home at 5132 Short Road with her two sisters, watched the smoke waft and billow from the charred remains that used to be her parent's home on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011. Marion and Orlando Tweet had lived there …

My condolences to the Tweet family. My family and I are saddened by the loss of this historic house. We grew up in that house and my grandparents lived next door. Both farms were sold when we all moved to Oregon in 1979 and 80. It was a wonderful place to grow up!   more ›
