Village flips the switch to joint dispatch, and that means a few changes took place.
People needing the police for a non-emergency will need to remember to call the new phone number. For emergencies call 911, nothing has changed. Toby Schey, Police Chief for the Caledonia Police Department, said the 911 phone number will automatically transfer a 911 call made in Caledonia to the Racine County Joint Dispatch Center. For one dispatcher, the move is 'getting back to basics.'
For six 911 dispatchers formally employed by Caledonia, not much changed after the first of the year when they became employees of Racine County. They still report to the Village Hall at 6922 Nicholson Road. But this spring the dispatchers will move from Caledonia to what will become known as the Racine Communications Center and they will have a new home. Once the move is completed, the newly created Racine County Communications Center will be formed and that means residents of Caledonia will be served by one 911-dispatch center operated by Racine County. Eventually all of the dispatchers from the City of Racine, Mt. Pleasant and Sturtevant hired by Racine County to staff the communications will all be under one roof to provide 911-…
