Sturtevant's newest commercial resident is expected to break ground next spring and open for business in 2014.

It's official. United Natural Foods, Inc. will take up residence in Sturtevant starting next spring at Highways 11 and H. Members of the village Community Development Authority and the Village Board unanimously approved a developerment agreement with UNFI Monday night during a special board meeting. "Jobs are the name of the game and we looked at what we had to do to attract this quality company," said Village President Steve Jansen. "This entire team has really done a heck of a job." Attorney John Bjelajac is UNFI's local legal counsel. He said the company is thrilled to come to Sturtevant. "They were so impressed with Sturtevant and the team here that the village quickly rose to the top of possibilities," he said. "UNFI is happy to be …

Natural Foods Distributor Coming to Sturtevant

The business behind Project Green was revealed by village officials in a notice Friday for a special board meeting Monday.

Sturtevant officials announced Friday that United Natural Foods Inc. is going build a new facility Highways 11 and H. The company's website says it's "North America's leading distributor of natural, organic and specialty products." The new commercial project is expected to add 244 jobs at what had been known Project Green, a development with an estimated value of $32 million. The new facility will be a LEED-certified project, meaning some of the most up-to-date eco-friendly building practices and materials will be used on the building. Headquartered in Providence, RI, the company's site here will probably include both office and warehouse space. Other distribution centers measure from 238,000 square feet to almost 700,000 square feet. …

244 New Jobs Heading to Sturtevant

Details are thin, but officials did confirm that a large new development with an estimated value of $32 million will make its new home at the corner of Highways H and 11.

Some 244 jobs are coming to Sturtevant as part of a new development with an estimated value of $32 million. Village trustees and members of the Community Development Authority Tuesday night approved changing Sturtevant's comprehensive land use plan to put one of the last pieces in place for the development to break ground. Designed to occupy the southwest corner of Highways H and 11, the new tenant—dubbed Project Green for its eco-friendly building plans—is an industrial development. Because the comprehensive plan indicates that parcel is identified for commercial use but zoned for industrial/business park, the officials needed to amend the plan to match the zoning. The executive summary states, "In the opinion of staff and consultants, …

Gov. Walker in Sturtevant to Celebrate BRP $15 Million Investment

Completing the expansion allows BRP to consolidate all of its Evinrude operations under one roof in Sturtevant, bringing 137 jobs here from Illinois.

Gov. Scott Walker touted business expansion and job growth in Sturtevant on Tuesday, while on hand to help with a ribbon cutting at BRP US, Inc. Walker said the $15 million renovation and expansion of the company's Evinrude outboard motor facility is an example of how cooperative investments that help businesses grow can help an entire region.  The expansion helped the company move 137 jobs from Waukegan, IL, to Sturtevant, bringing its entire Evinrude operation under one roof. "This helps everyone in the region. It's not just for someone who lives in Sturtevant or who lives in Racine," Walker noted. "Southeast Wisconsin is a great place for business. This is a great opportunity and BRP recognizes that." With the completion of the …

Governor Walker at Racine Metal-Fab, Asks for Help Marketing Manufacturing Jobs to Young People

After moving into a new facility in the Grandview Business Park, Racine Metal-Fab is adding jobs. Gov. Walker says with manufacturing solid and growing in Wisconsin, he needs our help promoting the possibilities to young people.

Update, 10 am March 4: Wages at Racine Metal-Fab are higher than the minimum requirements under the tax credit program. According to Dean Popek, chief financial officer at Racine Metal-Fab (RMF), wages for new employees hired under the tax credit program must start at a minimum of $10.85 per hour, which is 1-1/2 times the current minimum wage. Hourly wages at Racine Metal-Fab are higher than the $10.85, depending on the position and current skill set of the individual employee. Racine Federated Acquired by Badger Meter; New Jobs in 2013

RFI Chair John Erskine is retiring, but the company's operations will not move from its Mount Pleasant location.

When Racine Federated Chairman John Erskine, Jr. met with his employees right before the 2011 holidays, he had two major announcements: he was retiring and the company was getting acquired by Badger Meter of Milwaukee. The deal, Erskine said, comes at the right time for the company and the Erskine family. "We are looking at growing much faster than we would be able to do on our own," he said during a media announcement event on Jan. 3. "It's the appropriate time, too, with considerations of the extended family." Racine Federated (RFI) and Badger Meter both specialize in flow management, and the deal will bring together the companies' core strengths. Because of their separate focuses - meters vs. flow management - the businesses were not …
