Swag bags at the Academy Awards had a hometown connection.
Stars get a lot of swag for being part of the Academy Awards, and this year was no exception. Hollywood's A-listers took home swag bags worth almost $50,000, according to Business Insider, which is considered one of the least expensive packages in recent history. Sure there's a vacation to Australia and dessert-inspired candles, but stars also took home some very practical items as well. In addition to some pretty bracelets that double as hair ties, there's also the new Windex pump cleaner from our very own SC Johnson, because you just never know when Anne Hathaway or Ben Affleck will need to take care of a mess at an after party.

WISN (Channel 12) will air the 85th annual Academy Awards at 7:30 p.m. The network's red carpet coverage begins at 3:30 p.m. in select markets. After winning awards at the Sundance and Cannes film festivals, "Beasts of the Southern Wild" — produced by a Wauwatosa native — is in the running for the biggest prize of all: an Academy Award for Best Picture. Michael Raisler's "Beasts of the Southern Wild" is one of nine nominees. The movie received three other Oscar nominations on Thursday: Best Director (Benh Zeitlin), Best Actress in a Leading Role (Quvenzhané Wallis) and Best Adapted Screenplay (for Zeitlin and Lucy Alibar). …

Thank you Mike! I totally agree. I am in management at a major area bank and I too am looking forward to the oscars. I think it's great that there is a Wauwatosa tie and am hoping 'Beasts' wins an award. The tiny budget film is competing against others with huge budgets and major actors. You don't have to be in the movie business to enjoy watching these awards. I don't consider myself low …   more ›
