Rep. Paul Ryan Greeted with Support at Mount Pleasant Visit

The congressman for the First Congressional District of Wisconsin swept through Southeast Wisconsin for his annual spring listening sessions. He found a mostly supportive crowd in Mount Pleasant.

A full house of applause greeted Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Janesville) at his Mount Pleasant listening session Friday. He started the afternoon by presenting his plan to move the country out of fiscal danger and toward independence. Ryan focused on how close America is to suffering a European-style breakdown or facing "lost" decades like Japan if the country doesn't get its spending and debt under control. He echoed ideas from his "Path to Prosperity" presentations in April 2011, including revising the federal tax code. "By closing loopholes and getting rid of corporate tax shelters, we're making it fair for everyone," he said. "Then, we can bring rates down for individuals and for businesses and actually bring in more revenue." Ryan also supports…

Online Betting Puts Paul Ryan in 6th Place For GOP VP Nod

With bigger names ahead of him, including two senators and three governors, Paul Ryan's chance at being Mitt Romney's running mate are probably pretty slim.

Does Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Janesville) have a shot at becoming Mitt Romney's running mate? An online prediction market, Intrade, allows bets for non-sporting events and predictions over there put Ryan in sixth place. Ryan is all over the news, lauded by conservative channels for his ideas for a national budget and bashed by liberals for the same reason. According to a story running on jsonline.com, Senators Marco Rubio of Florida and Rob Portman of Ohio and Governors Chris Christie from New Jersey, Mitch Daniels of Indiana and Bob McDonnell of Virginia are all ahead of Ryan on the list of potential VP picks. The story presents Ryan's chances by the numbers, including his 55 television appearances, eight dates with CNBC, and $5.1 million…

Ryan Challenger Delivers Thousands of Signatures to Save Medicare

Rob Zerban and a handful of volunteers walked down 6th Street in Racine Tuesday to deliver boxes of petitions signed, they said, by almost 40,000 American citizens who want Congressman Paul Ryan to abandon his plans to privatize Medicare.

Saying Congressman Paul Ryan is on the wrong path with his plans for Medicare, Democratic challenger Rob Zerban on Tuesday delivered boxes of petitions to Ryan's Racine office, all signed by Americans who disagree with Ryan. Zerban and a handful of volunteers walked down 6th Street in downtown Racine behind a "Rob Zerban for Congress" banner to deliver between 35,000 and 40,000 signatures gathered online and from districts across the country to oppose Ryan's plan to turn Medicare into a voucher program. Zerban said he has not heard from Ryan about the opposition to his proposals and thinks the congressman will ignore the calls from his constituents. "Medicare and healthcare are big issues this election cycle," he said. "But Congressman …

Ryan Challenger Rob Zerban Signs Pledge to Protect Medicare

Medicare is not an entitlement program, Zerban said, it's an earned benefit.

Democratic congressional challenger Rob Zerban today signed a pledge to protect Medicare. He didn't choose March 12 randomly, but instead timed his promise to coincide with the anniversary of when Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Janesville) introduced his "Path to Prosperity" plan. "Paul Ryan's plan does nothing to protect seniors because it raises costs, sometimes by as much as $500 a month," he told a small group gathered at Wilson's Coffee in Racine. John and Betty Hembrook traveled from Hales Corners to watch Zerban sign his name to the pledge. They said they want to learn more about where Zerban stands so they can compare him to Ryan. "We need to know what Rob is saying and what Paul is saying," Betty Hembrook said. "But I think we need to defeat …
