Family and friends can still purchase tickets for red carpet seats Saturday.
Good news: tickets are still available for red carpet arrivals at Racine Rotary's annual post-prom celebration Saturday, "Enchantment Under the Sea." Laura DeGroot is this year's event chair, and she told Patch Thursday that family and friends can still purchase tickets online before the event for $8 or Saturday at Festival Hall for $10. "We do still have seating available and we also have room for behind-the scenes tours of the hall," she said. Tours also come with a commemorative stadium cushion ticketholders can use to save their seats while they're on the tour. Ticket prices before Saturday for this package are $23 or $25 at the door. Rotary members will lead groups through Festival Hall at 7 p.m., 7:15 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 7:45 p.m., and …

The annual prom party will move back to the City of Racine after giving it a go in Sturtevant in 2012.
After moving the annual festivities out to the Sturtevant SportPlex in 2012, Post Prom will once again rock the house at Festival Hall. Racine Rotary made the announcement Friday. Prom is scheduled for Saturday, May 18. “We are happy for our partnership with Festival Hall in creating a memorable Post Prom for the community,” said Claudius Adebayo, club president, in a written statement. “Our goal in these 60 years has been to offer a safe way for our community’s young people to mark their graduation accomplishment.” Several factors went into the decision, the release states, including that the SportPlex has grown and is being used for a variety of purposes that complicated Post Prom planning. More than 1,700 students attended Post Prom in …

Prom is a big deal in the life of a high school student, and here in the Racine area, prom is a much bigger deal. But not all girls can afford the finery, so Belle of the Ball steps in to help create the perfect look for a dazzling night.
Girls go to great lengths to look their very best for prom, and here in the Racine area, students perhaps go even further given the deep tradition of the Post Prom event that adds sparkle to the evening. Unfortunately, though, not all students have the financial means to put together the look of their dreams. This is where Belle of the Ball steps in and serves as a fairy godmother of sorts. This year, girls can visit the Racine Room at St. Mary's Hospital, 3801 Spring Street, from 7 to 9 pm March 30 and from 8 am to 12 pm March 31. Reservations are a good idea, but walk-ins are welcome. Students can email racineprom@hotmail.com to reserve a time. Dresses, shoes, and assessories have been collected from throughout the community to provide a…

Sturtevant trustees expected Rotary Post Prom representatives to make a financial request at the same time they identified roads for closure for the annual motorcade, but that ask has been put off possibly until the next village committee meeting.
Sturtevant trustees on April 4 are expected to pass a resolution that clears several hurdles for the annual Post Prom event taking place this year at the Sturtevant SportsPlex. Julie Craig, chair of the Post Prom party thrown by the Racine Rotary Foundation, spoke with village trustees during the Continual Committee meeting Tuesday. Because she is dealing almost exclusively with what happens at the venue once all the students have arrived, she talked predominantly about the need for three off-duty police officers and those associated costs. Chief Sean Marschke confirmed the rate is $25 per hour per officer and that he would send an invoice to her to make the arrangement official. According to the text of the resolution, the Village of …

After sending an email requesting help from Sturtevant to pay for the increased police presence at Post Prom in May, organizers are expected to make a formal appeal at the village's Continual Committee meeting on Tuesday.
The planning that goes into making Post Prom such a success is no small feat, and this year is not proving any different for organizers. Because the event is moving to Sturtevant, there are some new hurdles to clear that are a little unexpected. Representatives from Rotary Club of Racine, primary sponsors of the party, are expected to appear before village trustees on Tuesday at the Continual Committee meeting to make formal requests for road closures and perhaps financial assistance to help cover the costs for police at Post Prom. At the center of the issue is how to pay for 13 to 15 officers from the City of Racine and under whose jurisdiction, complete with liablity, they will operate. According to Sturtevant Police Chief Sean Marschke…

Adults say "yay" while students say "nay." What do you say?
For the first time in decades, the Rotary Club's Post Prom celebration is moving from downtown Racine. When students don their finery on May 19, 2012 they will climb aboard their fire engines and thunder up their muscle cars on their way to the Sturtevant Sportsplex in the Renaissance Business Park. Patch readers have weighed in with most adults siding with the move and students giving it a ... less than enthusiastic reception. Karen Itzenhuiser posted, "It's going to be perfect. More people will be able to see the parade. I'm looking forward to it." But Rina, senior Racine Unified student said, "It's really disappointing news to find out that 60 years of tradition are being flushed down the toilet. I wanted the dream prom night down town…

Rotary's Post Prom event draws students from eight high schools in Racine.
As of Thursday evening, Cirque d’Onze was coming together nicely. The French circus theme (onze means 11) was chosen by the Rotary Post Prom Committee, made up of students from all eight Racine high schools. Julie Craig, of Caledonia, is serving as Post Prom chair this year for the Downtown Rotary as the organization gets ready for the event. The Post Prom has been holding since 1953. She was joined at Festival Hall Thursday evening by members of the committee and other volunteers to decorate the venue for the annual event. Case senior Andrea Gutierrez was among the students helping put the finishing touches on Festival Hall for Saturday’s event. “It really is a big thing,” Gutierrez said of Post Prom. “I like the theme, it really makes it…

@Ruthann - seating is available on the bleachers that line both sides of the red carpet as students enter Festival Hall. Last year, Rotary started charging for those seats and had such a good response, members decided to do it again this year. But, because seating is first come, first seated, if a ticketholder went on the tour, they sometimes lost their seat. The stadium cushion is to help …   more ›
