Update: 16-year-old Travon Gray of Racine died Sunday night after he was pulled from the water at Quarry Lake Park.
The Racine County Sheriff's office has released the name of the Sunday night drowning victim at Quarry Lake Park: 16-year-old Travon Gray of Racine. Gray was pronounced dead at the Wheaton Franciscan Medical Center after being pulled from the water at Quarry Lake Park around 7:40 p.m. Sunday. Gray had been jumping off the pier at the south side of the lake. Gray was with friends who called 911 after he did not resurface. Our media partners at FOX6 News reported earlier that there were no lifeguards on duty in the area due to recent budget cuts. The boy was under the water for about 25 minutes, according to reports.
A teenager drowned in Quarry Lake on Sunday evening, after he and several friends jumped into the water. According to officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Department, the 16-year-old boy and his friends were jumping off of a pier on the south side of the lake. But the 16-year-old boy didn't resurface, and they called 911 at 7:09 p.m. The Racine County Water Rescue Response Team and fire personnel from the South Shore, Racine and Caledonia fire departments responded to the scene. FOX6 news said the boy was in the water for about 25 minutes before being rescued, and that he was not breathing when he was pulled from the water.
