Now that Jim Ladwig has moved into his newly elected position of Racine County Executive, Governor Scott Walker needs to fill Ladwig's vacant chair in the Racine County Register of Deeds office. Interested Racine County residents can download an application by going to Walker's website, clicking on the "Serve Wisconsin" tab and then choosing "Register of Deeds." The application is available in Word and PDF formats and once completed, can be emailed to the Governor's office or sent via U.S. Postal Service to Madison. The application is a generic form asking for basic information, references and optional demographic information. Unofficial county results last Tuesday night put him about 6,000 votes ahead of Ken Hall.
If the early results hold, Jim Ladwig is the new Racine County Executive. According to the Racine County website, Ladwig was leading Hall by about 6,000 votes with nearly all votes cast and counted. The villages of Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant approved Ladwig over Hall with votes of 4,698 to 3,148 and 708 to 450, respectively. Caledonia voters cast ballots of 4,930 for Ladwig over Hall's 2,823. Ladwig celebrated with supporters at the Captain's Cove in Sturtevant. "I appreciate everyone's help because this really was a team effort," he said. "Our message of delivering services residents need at a price they can afford resonated with voters."

James Ladwig, whose roots are in Caledonia, is seeking the top job in Racine County, the soon-to-open seat of county executive. Ladwig has been the county's register of deeds since 2004, supervising seven employees and an annual budget of $415,000. A move from his first-floor courthouse office to the county executive's 10th-floor digs would increase his purview to 835 employees and a $143 million budget. The election is April 5, 2011.
