'Toddler Fight Club' Daycare Workers Plead Not Guilty

Two women accused of filming and encouraging a fight between toddlers at a local daycare were in court Thursday.

Two women charged with child abuse for filming and encouraging a fight at the daycare where they worked plead not guilty Thursday. Jakitta Hollins, 22, of Caledonia, and Krystina Woods, 23, of Racine, each face a single felony count of child abuse/failure to prevent bodily harm. They were charged on May 3 and appeared in court Thursday for their preliminary hearing. Both defendants waived their hearings, according to court records, and entered pleas of not guilty. Racine police officers were called to Bundle of Blessings Kid Kare, 2333 Northwestern Ave., on April 26 by the daycare director for reports of child abuse. 'Toddler Fight Club' Charges Filed Against Caledonia Woman

Racine police have arrested two women — one from Caledonia — on child abuse charges for allegedly encouraging children in their care to beat up a 2-year-old.

**Updated 7:00 p.m. Two women — one from Caledonia — have been arrested on child abuse charges after Racine police say they encouraged three children at the day care where they worked to beat up a 2-year-old. Krystina Woods, 23, of Racine, and Jakitta Hollins, 22, of Caledonia, are facing single felony counts each of child abuse/failure to prevent bodily harm, according to court records. Both defendants had their initial appearances Friday. If convicted, they could each see six years in prison. Woods and Hollins were each released on a $10,000 signature bond with the condition that she live with her mother and not have any unsupervised contact with minors. Update: $75,000 Cash Bond for Drug Lab Suspect

Racine police announced Wednesday they have a suspect in custody for the drug lab found last week when firefighters responded to calls for a fire on Parkview Drive.

The Racine man police say ran a drug lab in the upstairs apartment of his uncle's house is being held in the Racine County Jail on a $75,000 cash bond. According to a written release from the Racine Police Department, Timothy Gutierrez, 39, of Racine, was taken into custody Tuesday for his suspected involvement in the clandestine ecstasy lab found in an upstairs apartment of his uncle's house. Gutierrez was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count each of felony possession with intent to deliver THC and felony conspiracy to manufacture designer drugs; two counts of felony first degree recklessly endangering safety; and four counts of misdemeanor bail jumping. Firefighters Discover Racine Drug Lab

Racine firefighters responded to calls of a possible structure fire on Park View Drive, but they found a drug lab instead.

**Updated 5:40 p.m. Racine firefighters responded to calls of a blaze in the 400 block of Park View Drive on Friday, but when they went inside, they found more than just a structure fire — they uncovered a drug lab. Two men saw smoke coming from the rear of the home from a block away, according to a press release from the Racine Fire Department. They attempted to knock on the doors to alert any occupants about the fire, but no one answered. Area Police Searching for Credit Card Fraud Suspects

Two women are suspected of using stolen credit cards to try and buy gift cards.

Police are asking the public to keep a look out for two women who, they say, are using stolen credit cards to buy gift cards from area grocery stores. According to Mount Pleasant police, two female suspects Wednesday visited Piggly Wiggly on Washington Avenue to try and purchase gift cards of $50 and up with stolen credit cards. Before their stop at The Pig, the women also reportedly went to the Pick 'n' Save on Rapids Drive and two Piggly Wiggly stores on Erie and Durand Avenue, all of which are in the City of Racine. Free Cable Gun Locks Available, No Strings Attached

A grant is allowing the Racine Police Department to hand out free cable gun locks to try and reduce accidents and suicides.

Residents of eastern Racine County - including Caledonia residents - are invited to pick up free cable gun locks at one of four area Racine COP (Community Oriented Policing) houses. The give-away is from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at these COP house locations: According to a press release from the City of Racine Health Department, the gun locks and instruction sheets are being provided by a grant from the Charles E. Kubly Foundation for the Kenosha County Division of Health. The Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals diagnosed with depression. Villages and City of Racine Declare Snow Emergencies

Public works, police and the public had to deal with yet another late-season snow storm. See how people handled the storm on Tuesday, and tell us how things are in your neighborhood.

7:25 p.m.: The snow emergency in Sturtevant is extended until 10 a.m. Wednesday, DPW Director Chuck Stachowski confirmed in an email. 1 p.m.: The Racine Public Library will close Tuesday at 2 p.m. According to a note from Director Jessica MacPhail, materials due today will instead be due Wednesday. Regular library hours will resume Wednesday as well. Mitchell Airport is also reporting that some flights have been cancelled.  Noon: The Villages of Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant, along with the City of Racine, have snow emergencies that go into effect later today. Sturtevant Man Shot at Twins Market; Shooter in Custody

Samuel White from Racine has been arrested for shooting Sturtevant resident Bashar Qedan at the Racine convenience store on Thursday.

**Updated 1:30 p.m. The clerk shot at Twins Market on Thursday was from Sturtevant, police said Friday.  Bashar Qedan, 24, was working at the 16th Street convenience store on Thursday afternoon when someone came into the store and opened fire.  Police quickly developed a suspect—Samuel J. White, 54, of Racine. He was arrested overnight on charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, and is being held at the Racine County Jail. Qedan was treated at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints hospital, and then released. He had been shot in the shoulder in front of several witnesses, according to Racine Uncovered. $6,000 in Rewards Offered for Tips About Jacato Drive Arson

Between Crime Stoppers of Racine County and the Wisconsin Insurance Council, there's a total of $6,000 in reward money attached to the tip that leads to an arrest for the Jacato Drive apartment building fire.

Dozens of people were displaced because of the Jan. 29 fire on Jacato Drive. At 8:40 p.m., the Racine Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at 2500 Jacato Drive. The blaze destroyed the apartment building, but it could have been so much worse. It took fire fighters from several communities, including Racine, South Shore and Caledonia, to completely extinguish the blaze that displaced dozens of residents. Investigators quickly determined the cause of the fire was arson, according to a story in The Journal Times. Given the scope of the fire, this was a dangerous situation for both the residents living in the building - officially or not - and the fire fighters who battled the blaze. Woman Accused of Stealing Baby Formula to Sell, Pay for Cancer Meds

A Racine woman is accused of stealing baby formula she says she was going to sell to help pay for her cancer medications.

A Racine woman is in jail after allegedly telling officers she stole baby formula to sell to pay for her cancer medications. Therese Bolton, 39, was charged in Racine County Circuit Court with one misdemeanor count of retail theft and a felony count of bail jumping, repeater. If convicted, she faces up to six years, nine months in prison and/or up to $10,500 in fines. According to the criminal complaint, Racine Police were called to Kmart, 2211 S. Green Bay Road, on Feb. 6 for a call of shoplifting. When officers arrived, store security said they saw Bolton put three cans of baby formula in her purse and then attempt to leave the store.
