Kleefisch Visits Racine to Promote the Big Bundle Up

Real Racine is a drop-off center for new and gently used winter gear to help local neighbors bundle up against the Wisconsin winter.

Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch stopped in Racine County Tuesday to help promote the Big Bundle Up winter clothing drive. Similar to the mitten drive last winter, the Big Bundle Up aims to help our less fortunate neighbors gear up against the cold of winter.  "Last year started as a kind of competition between Wisconsin and Michigan for which state looked more like a mitten," Kleefisch said. "But this year we expanded past mittens to coats, hats, and scarves." More than 3,100 pairs of mittens or gloves were donated in 2011, and Kleefisch hopes to beat that number this year. "I know we can do it because the people of Wisconsin are generous and giving," she added. The drive started the first week of December and runs through Jan. 4. Donations of …

Community Nativity Program with Caroling and Cookies

Celebration Christmas Saturday 1 to 3 p.m. at a community gathering in Monument Square.

Celebrate Christmas at Monument Square in Downtown Racine with a nativity program from 1 to 3 p.m. featuring music, caroling and free hot chocolate, coffee and cookies. Presented by the Christmas Coalition of Churches, the nativity scene has been expanded and refurbished through the donated efforts of area businesses and volunteers. Christmas carols will be sung and families are invited to have pictures taken in front of the creche. The Color Run Too Good To Let Go

Kari Dawson from REAL Racine explains why The Color Run is coming to Racine the same day as the Ruud Rush and the tradition of Racine's Post Prom celebration.

In late March, Real Racine (the Racine County Convention & Visitors Bureau) was approached by one of the organizers of The Color Run, Jeff Suffolk, regarding the opportunity to host the race in Racine. The Color Run is a non-competitive, non-timed 5-kilometer run/walk where participants wear all-white apparel and are doused with a colored paint (food-grade colored cornstarch) at each kilometer mark of the race. The race is concluded with a finish line festival. Suffolk is a friend and former colleague of Ironman 70.3 Racine triathlon race director Ryan Richards. Richards recommended Racine to Suffolk as an excellent location for the race and me, events director at Real Racine, as a good fit for race director. The Color Run organizers …

Ghosts, Goblins & Ghouls Get Their Race On

Drivers should avoid Skeleton Skamper route through Mount Pleasant on Oct. 29.

No, it's not an episode of The Walking Dead or the set of a new horror flick, but you will see zombies, ghosts, skeletons and all sorts of creatures running through Mount Pleasant this weekend. Sat., Oct. 29, marks the second annual Skeleton Skamper 5K and Half-Marathon through the village. Sponsored by Real Racine and a number of local businesses, approximately 1,000 athletes will participate in this ghoulishly fun run and race. Volunteers are still needed to help with registration, man water stations, point runners in the right direction, and assist at the finish line. Contact Kari at: 262-898-3323 or email: kari@realracine.com.
