Pamala Handrow Seeks Her Second Term on RUSD Board

This candidate profile is the third in a series.

Caledonia Patch started its Racine Unified School District Board of Education election coverage this week with profiles of the five candidates competing for three positions. Each of the candidates were interviewed individually and asked to comment on identical questions. The candidates’ responses will appear over the next few days. Three incumbents and two challengers are seeking three-year terms on the board. Members are elected at-large to the nine-member School Board, which sets policy for RUSD—the state’s fourth largest school district. If they had the money upfront to purchase this building and supposedly it will pay for itseld in + years, then why wasn't this money spent on our children. Central office is over inflated with the number of employees it has to begin with. School Board Candidate Would Look To Hire Instructional Coaches

Dennis Wiser, a retired teacher, said to address the achievement gap, you need to support teachers by hiring instructional coaches.

What??? We need to hire people to come in and teach the teachers how to do their jobs? Don't they all have degrees in this? Don't most of them spend all summer taking classes? Hazardous Transportation Areas Mapped for RUSD students

Over 1,000 students are included and some are in Wind Point and Caledonia.

Areas of the Racine Unified School District that pose safety hazards to about 1,000 students that ride a bus were officially mapped and adopted by the Board of Education on Monday. Transportation Supervisor Patrick Starken told the board that the unusual hazardous areas have been previously identified and described in a narrative, but the locations haven’t been plotted on a map until now. Students who live in these designated areas are exempted from the district’s policy of not providing transportation to those who live less than two miles from their school. Pockets of Caledonia and Wind Point are included on the map because of safety factors such as no safe walk areas along streets, narrow road shoulders, children under 6th grade and lack…
