Texting While Driving? It'll Cost You
Whether your are texting or driving inattentively, police and driving experts say keep your eyes on the road.
Caledonia police and driving experts are concerned with the enforcement of a new ban on texting while operating a motor vehicle. Despite the challenges, they continue to emphasize the dangers of inattentive driving. The state law, which went into effect Dec. 1, prohibits texting on a device while operating a motor vehicle. But the law does not ban other uses of a cell phone while driving, such as surfing the Web or dialing a phone number. Sgt. Gary Larsen, of the Caledonia Police Department, said this makes the measure tough to enforce. "To prove that someone is texting, they are going to have to show you their phone," Larsen said.
