While video gambling machines are illegal in Wisconsin, but a number of taverns and restaurants have had them for years. With the economy in the tank and our tax bills on the rise, should we legalize gambling in Wisconsin?
We've all seen illegal video gambling machines in bars, restaurants and gas stations for years. And while the Department of Revenue and the Caledonia Police Department has asked the gas stations (or at least those businesses with Class A liquor licenses) to pull the plug and get rid of the machines this month, the taverns and restauarants with five or fewer will get to keep theirs. But this week, Daniel Takerian, owner of Primegamez LLC asked: “Are they allowing gambling in the state of Wisconsin, why yes they are in the 12,000 bars and restaurants, so why can’t gas stations have them?” Takerian argues that keeping those machines in those gas stations means they get to keep the doors open, just like the bars and restaurants. Legalize all gambling in the state and tax it heavily. Why should only certain groups have preferential treatment. Then everybody abides by the same gaming rules, no exceptions, no special compacts.   more ›
