Not Sexy, but Necessary: Water Tower, Underground Storage Means Savings

Caledonia residents will see water savings because officials looked to the future growth, development and service needs of the village.

The construction of a new 750,000 gallon water tower and a 1.5 million gallon storage unit will save Caledonia residents money in the long run.  Though it isn't going to be an obvious savings immediately apparent on a bill, village  property owners will save on their homeowners insurance because the new water tower helps make sure there's enough pressure for fire protection. More, cell phone companies will pay Caledonia to put their equipment on the tower, and the fees the carriers pay will help fund the tower's maintenance. A new, 1.5 million attentuation basin, or storage tank, on Northwestern Avenue will be completed later this summer. When it's finished, Caledonia will be able to control how much sewer flows back to the City of Racine…

Until Caledonia extends water mains the Water Tower will not impact insurance rates in Caledonia. This tower only replaces the failing water tower in Crestview. Sorry.   more ›

Water Tower Nearly Complete, Paint Job This Spring

After almost a year of construction, the village's newest water tower will be completed later this spring.

The new water tower at 4611 7-Mile Road will be completed later this spring. According to Water Utility Commissioner Bob Bradley, the tower is two-thirds complete and is right on schedule. "We are right on schedule for completion," he said. "It needs paint, but we can't do that until the spring." This new tower holds 750,000 gallons of water, compared to 100,000 for the old one. Caledonia trustees voted last May to borrow the $1.36 million needed for construction. Once complete, the new water tower will serve as water reserves for fire protection in areas where there aren't fire hydrants as well as help maintain water pressure for homes further away from the water treatment plant.
