UPDATE: Neighbor Drops Complaint Over Murder Vicitim's Memorial

Jonathan Kwiatkowski's family planted a memorial garden in his name, but a neighbor has complained to the village that it's a nuisance. The neighbor says the memorial reminds him of his and his roommate's own personal tragedy. Now he's dropping the compla

UPDATE: The neighbor who filed a complaint saying his neighbor's memorial to his son was a nuisance has dropped the complaint, according to a story in the Journal Times. In his letter to Village President Bill Bensman dated Tuesday, the retired educator said he (McNulty) was withdrawing the complaint “based on the thoughtful rearrangement of the memoriam.” Here's the original story: WIND POINT, WI -- One month after a local man was fatally stabbed at his family's home in April 2011, family members planted a memorial garden in the front yard as a Mother's Day present for the victim's mom.  Jonathan Kwiatkowski's brothers, Kyle and Corey, and his sister-in-law Cassie, planted the garden around a tree in front of the family's Wind Point home…

"Tim Kwiatkowski, Jonathan’s father, said he would have preferred to have a face-to-face discussion" Can't say I blame McNulty for contacting the Village first. The last time a complaint was voiced to the Kwiatkowskis a death occurred.   more ›

Lori Kwiatkowski also gave a dramatic testimony as she talked about the details surrounding her son's death. Wind Point Man Chases Away Burglar

The following information was supplied by the Caledonia Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Wind Point - A homeowner scared off a possible burglar from his home at 4:04 p.m. Nov. 10 in the 5300 block of Hunt Club Road. Officials with the Village of Wind Point had asked for mutual aid from the Caledonia Police Department. The suspect rang the doorbell to the home, but when the homeowner looked outside he only saw a blue car parked in his driveway. Going to a side window, he saw a man wearing all black and a scarf covering his face on his front porch, according to a report by the Caledonia Police Department. The homeowner didn’t answer the front door, but then 15 minutes later he heard the doorbell ring again and saw the same person outside. While super cell thunderstorms aren’t unheard of, you don’t see them every year.” At the Racine Airport, wind gusts reached 66 mph, according to officials with the National Weather Service. Video: Murder Victim's Mother Tells How She Watched Her Son Die

Lori Kwiatkowski, mother of murder victim Jonathan Kwiatkowski, testified in a preliminary hearing why Sean Forester-Hoare allegedly killed her son.

A courtroom filled with friends and family sobbed as Lori Kwiatkowski gave her testimony in a preliminary hearing Wednesday as she recalled how her son, Jonathan Kwiatkowski, died on April 4. Sean Forester-Hoare, 29, lived three houses down from Kwiatkowski and his family. Forester-Hoare is accused of first-degree intentional homicide. If convicted, he faces life in prison. Kwiatkowski, 21, of Wind Point, was stabbed in the throat while he was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher. He died after he, and his family, had a violent conflict with Forester-Hoare over his driving, said Lori Kwiatkowski. "You took his life," Lori said. "You took my baby's life because of his driving!" Lori, who is the state's only witness in the case, told the court…

Villages Will Get Reimbursed Some of the Cost for Ground Hog's Day Blizzard

Sturtevant has completed the process, but Mount Pleasant and Caledonia are still tallying costs, and officials from those villages expect to have documentation completed by next week.

Whether you call it Snowmageddon or Snowtorious Big or just a big mess, the Feb. 2, 2011 blizzard cost municipalities a lot of money in labor, equipment and salt for icy roads. But because the days just before and after, roughly Jan. 31 to Feb. 4, have been declared an emergency disaster period, the Villages of Caledonia, Wind Point, Sturtevant and Mount Pleasant are eligible for Federal Emergency Management Agency funds to help cover the costs involved with clearing all that snow. Chuck Stachowski, director of public works for Sturtevant, said FEMA guidelines include choosing a 48-hour period between Jan. 31 and Feb. 4, tallying the costs, and then submitting an application for reimbursement. FEMA is expected to kick in 75 percent, the …

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Set for April 16

Caledonia, Sturtevant, Mt. Pleasant, North Bay and Wind Point residents can use this service.

Wondering what to do with those leftover solvents, fertilizers, insecticides and other things in your garage, basement or closets? The first of this year’s seven planned household hazardous waste collections runs from 8 a.m.to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 16. Residents, living east of I-94, can drop off items at the collection site located at 6200 21st Street, just north of the former Sam’s Club. “We run the gamut—old solvents, oil-based paint, floor cleaner. It’s almost like a history lesson. We’ll see cans and boxes of stuff that’s 50 years old,” says Keith Haas, general manager of the Racine Water & Wastewater Utilities, which organizes the hazardous waste drop-off. Last year’s collection program took in about 71,000 pounds of materials from …
