Some people voted for two or more presidential candidates on the same ballot, area elections officials say.
Elections officials from several Milwaukee suburbs reported issues with overvoting during Tuesday's presidential election, and one city said the problem caused them to worry whether they would have enough ballots. Greenfield City Clerk Jennifer Goergen said the city ordered enough ballots for 110 percent of the registered voting population, however, when someone overvotes — votes for more than one person in a race — that person can get a second or even a third ballot. In Greenfield, that problem made the ballot pile dwindle. The city did have enough ballots by the times the polls closed. "We’ve tried to correct that," Goergen said Tuesday evening. Wisconsin stands as a crucial swing state in November, and both parties are taking notice. President Barack Obama and Ann Romney, the wife of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, both have scheduled campaign stops in Milwaukee this week. Romney will hold a rally at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Marquette University. The event will be held in the old gym at 1530 W. Clybourn St. The event is open to the public, but anyone who wants to attend must RSVP online at the campaign's website. A Dane County judge has declared Act 10 — the budget repair bill — as unconstitutional at both the state and federal levels.
The law that ended most collective bargaining rights for public employees was struck down Friday by Dane County Circuit Judge Juan Colas. According to our media partners at Fox 6 News, Colas ruled Act 10 — the budget repair bill — as null and void because the law violates both the state and US Constitutions. Specifically, the law violates the guarantee of freedom of speech and citizens' freedom of association. Delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte were led by "Extreme Home Makeover" host Monday as they worked together to help build a home for a local veteran.
CHARLOTTE, NC -- Most convention events don’t involve Wisconsin delegates swinging hammers and painting walls, but this isn’t your average convention event. Democratic delegates — including those from Wisconsin — on Monday participated in the Craftsman House United project to build a home for a military veteran. Half the home was built last week by delegates at the Republican National Convention in Tampa. The home was transported to Charlotte, where Democrats finished up the work. The project was a collaboration between Heroes at Home, Rebuilding Together, Craftsman and NextGen Home, and was led by Ty Pennington, of "Extreme Home Makeover" fame.

National news sites broke the news just before midnight on Friday night, ending weeks of speculation and propelling Wisconsin into the heart of the presidential campaign. Farms in 23 counties — including Waukesha, Racine, Milwaukee and Ozaukee — can apply for emergency loans in Wisconsin to stay afloat during the record-breaking droughts.
With a drought raging throughout Wisconsin, Gov. Scott Walker on Thursday requested federal disaster relief for 23 counties across the state. The action comes a day after Walker declared a drought emergency for all 72 counties, citing a “risk of major economic losses, especially in agriculture.” Under Thursday’s new designation, farmers could apply for emergency loans through the federal Farm Service Agency to aid in their struggles against the ongoing dry conditions.
