Check out these spots — declared the best by thousands of Patch readers — in the Milwaukee area.

Patch readers (and fish fry connoisseurs) throughout the Milwaukee area cast thousands of votes over the past five days, helping us determine some of the best fish fry spots in the area. This is the first in a series of stories where Patch will ask readers to give their takes on favorite local businesses and places.  The winners of the best fish fry contests were determined over the course of a week, from more than 20,000 votes cast, 145 comments left, 37 restaurant reviews and 100 Facebook Likes or Recommends.  Here's a roundup of the winners:

Wells Bros. Voted Best Pre-Prom Dinner Spot

Prom is May 19, and thousands of high school students are starting to scope out places to take their dates on the big night. Patch readers weighed in this week, and named the popular pizza joint the best spot.

There's no place like Racine for Prom, and finding a great spot to eat is part of the tradition. Patch asked for help naming the best place to take a date before Prom in Mount Pleasant, Sturtevant and Caledonia. Wells Bros. Pizza in Mount Pleasant took top honors, earning 50 percent of the votes in our poll.  Other restaurants that earned votes in the poll were Sebastian's, The Summit, DeRango's on 6 Mile Road and Douglas Ave, Jose's Blue Sombrero, DeRango's Pizza Palace, IHOP, Honey B's II and Red Lobster.

Looking for a Place to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

These places throughout the Milwaukee area are known for their Irish offerings on March 17. From corned beef and colcannon to Guinness on tap, to a street festival, there's something to satisfy everyone's Irish craving.

DeRango's Wins Best Fish Fry

He's the king of pizza making and has the best fish fry.

Tony DeRango, of DeRango the Pizza King, knows how to make a pizza, but he's got a pretty mean fish fry too. Patch ran a weeklong poll to see who has the best fish fry in the Caledonia, Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant area. DeRango's restaurant, 4621 6 Mile Road, was among seven area restaurants that earned a nomination. The restaurant received 43 out of the 125 votes cast. Second place went to Culver's, which received 25 votes. We'd like to thank everyone who came out to the polls. We know you probably appreciated the fact that no identification was required and no one made you sign a poll book before you had the ability to vote.
