Contractor Takes Money, Never Does Work, Police Say
A Racine contractor is accused of taking a Caledonia woman's money for a new roof and not performing the promised work.
A 42-year-old Racine contactor is accused of taking money from a Caledonia woman and never performing work he promised. Michael L. Ottelien was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Thursday with one count of theft by false representation If convicted, he faces up to 1½ years in prison and $10,000 in fines. According to the criminal complaint: A woman contacted the Caledonia Police Department after she hired Otterlien’s company, Ottelien Decorating and Remodeling LLC, to put a new roof on her home and the work was never performed. She said she gave Ottelien a $4,500 down payment in June and he made excuses as to why he never started the job.
