ReplySadly to say, our children are not safe left alone to play anywhere, in any community. My heart goes out to that little girl and her parents. I pray her parents, and all parents, will be more vigilant in the future and not allow their child to play unattended. It is just another sign of the times.
It sounds like her parents did the right thing in teaching her not to go near strangers. They can me grateful for that!
Let us pray the police stay on the case and find the pervert. Hopefully, he'll be put away, behind bars, so he cannot have the opportunity to harm another child. -

ALAS! A sound of reasoning! Horray! I have grown weary of all the negativity and jokes that have been made on such a serious subject concerning our young people and their health. Unfortunately, to get 'the powers that be' to do the right thing without regard to the almighty dollar close to impossible. It will take the masses to get serious and stop the joking around in order to get this accomplished. Parents need to take action -- speak to there school officials and start demanding chance for the health and well-being of their children. Thank you for wise words.

ReplyThank you, Lyssa, for publishing this most vidal information. How dreadful that so many young lives could have been safed if only they were seated properly in the vehical. What a senseless, tragic waste. I pray this reaches all the parents and caregivers that need to read it. I posted it on my face book page for my friends and relatives to read and spread the word. Thanks again.

ReplyEnough is enough! I sincerely believe the children that have been injurged and the parents of those children do not appreciate the jokes and applied finger-pointing. There may not be many people aware of this special day but it is one to be taken serious. I am ending my part of this discussion by saying this; please stop the jokes, take a few moments to look into the web site and find out for your self what has truly been happening for the past several years. The web site is part of THE AMERICAN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSOCIATION, INC. and it is as follows: www.aota.org/Awarness/School-Backpack-Awareness.aspx

Michael, What an excellant idea! That would be a almost perfect solution to the problem. I would think that the companies that handle E-books may even contribute some of them to the schools. Good PR!! A tax write-of!!!

Randy, This is not in the news because of another article on Patch regarding something at Waukesha West. Totally unrelated!! If you would google NATIONAL SCHOOL BACKBACK AWARENESS DAY you will find that it is indeed a NATIONAL DAY that has been in existance for years. It was formed by THE AMERICAN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSOCIATION's in an effort to keep the public and professionals aware of the ever growing health concerns. You can also google THE AMERICAN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSOCIATION and check out the forum that anyoe can join: BACKPACK FORUM ON OT CONNECTIONS. National School Backpack Awareness Day is observed each year on the 3rd Wednesday of September. It's a special day to be more aware of our children's health.

ReplyI found the following in todays AARP Bulletin and thought it very appropriate:
September 9, 2012
In 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed into law the recognition of National Grandparents Day as the first Sunday after Labor Day. Since then, it has become a special time for grandparents to tell grandchildren how cherished they are, and for grandkids to show their appreciation of the special role Grandma and Grandpa play in their lives.
Remind the Grandkids to Call:
There was also a video that can be found on YOUTUBE. If you can google the AARP Bulletin you can watch and share this immensely popular AARP lip dub of this summer's monster hit "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen. Grandkids will get the message and think you're extremely hip in the process! -

Reply"NEIL ALDEN ARMSTRONG REMEMBERED AS A HERO, AN IMAGE HE SHUNNED" a quote from one of the articles on his website. The man didn't want attention. He just wanted to live his life and serve his fellow man without any fanfare.
Whether he was 82 or 22, it was still shocking - or maybe heartbroken would have been a better choice of words - to learn of the passing of someone you admire; of someone who has done more for America than you can imagine. Much of what he did was never publicized.
So it's sad when people stop caring about their fellow man as they become part of the senior citizen population.
Oh, by the way, you can blame the TV reporter for the miss-quote which has since been corrected. Thank you for your concern for your fellow man.

Good info PATCH!!! Thanks for publishing this article with excellent detailed information. Nice to know where my community fits in with the rest of the state. Sorry to say Saukville does have it's bad neighborhoods, just like every other community in the USA. The larger the community grows --- the higher the crime rate grows.
Thanks again for the percise research and well written report. Keep up the good work. I see an ongoing growing-spree in THE PATCH. This is a "good thing"!
