Washington Park senior John Tierney will get a visit from over 100 of his closest friends and supporters next week when friends, family, students and faculty walk to his house from Park just to show him that they have his back.

Park Pulls Together to Support Student with Leukemia

Washington Park senior John Tierney was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia after he started having pain in his leg while on vacation with his family in Florida. "I thought it was just growing pains, but no, it had to be cancer," he joked. His good friend, Danielle Frost, is organizing a walk on May 23 to John's house that will be preceded by some students and teachers shaving their heads in solidarity. "John starts some pretty intense chemo next week so I want to show him that people support and care about him," Frost said. "He's one of the nicest people on the planet and he doesn't deserve this." Tierney said he struggles with how to thank Frost and the rest of the Park family for their support and he plans to come up with something before the walk Thursday.
