Burglar attempts to break into home as owners slept, say Caledonia Police.

Police are searching for a male suspect who attempted to break into a garage at 2:56 a.m. Saturday while the homeowners were sleeping.

The attempted break-in happened at a residence located in the 5400 block of North Meadows Drive.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 16 to 18 years old, 5-foot 10-inches tall, 150 pounds, blue jeans, winter jacket and baseball hat, according to a report by the Caledonia Police Department.

The homeowners were asleep at the time of the attempted break-in and were woken up by a noise coming from the driveway. By the time police arrived, the suspect had fled the scene in an older model vehicle, possibly a Toyota, with a loud exhaust. The homeowner told police the male didn’t run away, but “acted casually” and “as if he was doing nothing wrong,” according to the report.

Two knives – a steak knife with a broken handle and a butcher knife – were found near the garage door. The steak knife was stabbed into the side of the garage.

Damage to the siding is estimated at $100. Police were able to get fingerprints off of the handle of the butcher knife.

The homeowner told the police that he doesn’t know who could have tried to break into his home. Police patrolled the area, but were unable to find the car. No other homes or cars were damaged in the area nor were any other homes broken into.
