Bicyclists Take To The Road In Silence

A number of local bicyclists rode in a six-mile "Ride in Silence" to raise awareness of bicycle-related crashes and deaths.

A group of bicyclists met up at the Regency Mall Wednesday night to do the Ride of Silence, a six-mile ride that honors those who were killed or injured while riding their bicycles.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the event, which serves to remind drivers to keep an eye out for cyclists and share the road.

Bicyclists from all over the world participate. The ride started in 2003 after Larry Schwartz, an endurance cyclist, died after being struck by a school bus, according to a story in the the Dallas Morning News.
