Flax Seed Whole Wheat Bread by The Traveling Chef

Local chef sells Flax Seed Whole Wheat Bread at downtown Racine Farmers' Market.

I love starting my summer weekends with a visit to the Racine Farmers' Market.  I came home from the market this past Saturday with my usual haul of local produce.  I also picked up a loaf of Flax Seed Whole Wheat Bread.

While I was putting away my newly purchased beets, berries, and snap peas, my husband starting slicing the bread for breakfast.  After we each polished off two buttered slices, we agreed it was good stuff.  I was delighted because wheat bread has not always been welcomed enthusiastically by my family.

The Flax Seed Whole Wheat Bread is made by Lizz Fabel of The Traveling Chef.  The bread is well known to customers of The Traveling Chef’s gourmet dinner service and is now making fans at the Racine Farmers' Market, where Lizz sells her delicious bread on Saturday mornings.  The hearty loaves have been selling like hot cakes.

The Travelling Chef’s bread is made from a blend of white and whole wheat flours plus ground and whole flax seeds.  It contains no sugar and no preservatives. It’s an artisanal loaf with a crisp crust and tender interior; the flavor is rich and nutty with a hint of sweetness.  We enjoyed the fresh bread plain or buttered, but it also made fabulous toast.

You can find the Flax Seed Whole Wheat Bread at the downtown Racine Farmers' Market.  (The Market is held on Saturdays from 8 am to noon in the CNH parking lot at State and Erie.)  Choose a small or large loaf, but be sure to arrive early as The Travelling Chef’s bread has been selling out.  You can learn more about Lizz and her business at www.thetravelingchef.org
