Caledonia Police Seek Third Sex Assault Charge Against Teacher's Aide

A second teaching assistant saw the third incident that allegedly happened in December.

The Caledonia Police Department will seek additional charges against an teacher's aide accused of sexually assaulting a student.

Lewis Givens Jr., 35, served as an educational assistant at Olympia Brown Elementary, 5915 Erie St., for students with cognitive disabilities. He allegedly sexually assaulted a nine-year-old student, who he was not assigned to care for, said officials with the Caledonia Police Department at the time of the initial complaint.

In January, the Racine County District Attorney’s Office charged Givens for two of the incidents. Now, Caledonia police investigators are seeking charges on the third incident.

According to the initial criminal complaint, a substitute teacher saw Givens fondling a female student on two occasions, on Jan. 6 and on Jan 10. On Jan. 6, the substitute teacher told the police there were other children in the room.

A second teacher's aide saw Givens inappropriately touching the girl's breast on Dec. 21, but Investigator Lisa Seils said she wasn’t able to interview the second teacher’s aide because she was in Georgia, but then was able to interview her further about the Dec. 21 incident.

Seils said she would be seeking additional charges of one felony count of sexual assault of a student and one felony count of sexual assault of a student by school staff. This is in addition to Givens being charged with two felony counts of sexual assault of a student, and two felony counts of sexual assault of a student by school staff.

Each felony count of first-degree sexual assault of a student carries a prison sentence of up to 60 years, and each count of sexual assault of a student by school staff includes a fine of up to $10,000 and six years in prison.
